latto: "Legacy trusts in Brazilian players, and we will stay as a Brazilian team"
Nathaniel "Gadj" Singer got to chat with Legacy's Bruno "latto" Rebelatto the day before their semifinal at IEM Atlanta. Following a flawless group stage capped off by a win over NAVI, Legacy earned a direct berth to the top four.
latto talked about their strong performance in the group stage, their up-and-down form, and his relationship with others on the Legacy squad.
A transcription of the full interview is underneath. All questions and answers have been slightly edited for length and clarity.
How are you feeling about the team's performance at the event so far?
I think our performance has been good at this event. We changed some things in the team, and it's going well. In this event, we are doing great, and everybody is playing so well.
You guys beat NAVI in the seeding match at the end of the group. Did you expect that? What went so well in that one?
We played against them at ESL Pro League, and we won. We didn't expect to go to the playoffs like this, but we have the confidence because we're training a lot. I think we are very confident.
Did you have any goals coming into the event?
I think we've hit our goals because we were looking at the playoffs, and now we are in the semifinals. Now, we look to the grand final. Let's see if we can do this.
At IEM Rio, you went out in last place. At this event, you're already in the top four. What do you think changed from then?
We changed some things inside the team. We changed our coach. Our analyst, adrrr, is our coach now. He's helping us a lot in the team. Now, we have a new analyst, bobz is his name. I think this is changing a lot.
arT changed some things in our minds to be more team-oriented. That's it, it's changing some things in the team, and we are more happy playing and improving our game.
Last year, you guys made a couple of finals and won a tournament. This year, things have been a little bit more inconsistent. What do you feel like is the cause of that?
I don't know. I think we had some problems in the team. I don't know, I think it's the mentality. We changed our mentality and see what we need to do to be better.
Can you tell me a little bit about the culture in the team compared to other ones you've been on?
In the team, we are now very friendly. We're always together, playing everything. It's very good for the team. If you like to stay with your teammates, I think you do things better in the server. This is our culture in Brazil, as well. We like to be together.
A few months ago, you guys switched lux out for arT. Can you tell me how they are different or similar?
I think both are very good captains. Outside the server, arT is doing some different jobs in the team. He brings the team together. Both are very good captains.
You and dumau have been together for five years. That's a really long time in CS, why do you think you guys have stayed together so long?
We believe in the same things. We believe in our team and each other. It's because of this that we've been together for five years. We've played with different players, we always trust in the team and believe in the same things to win trophies
Recently, some Brazilian organizations like FURIA and MIBR have gone international. Do you have any thoughts on that?
They had the opportunity to go international. I think the Brazilian scene is a little expensive these days. Legacy trusts in Brazilian players, and we will stay as a Brazilian team.
What do you think this event means to the team, especially with the Major coming up soon?
I think we are feeling good with the new things in the team. Before the Major, we are working hard to be a better team. Our expectations, of course, are to go to the playoffs. We are going step-by-step, and that's our mentality now to be better for the Major.
Any thoughts on the quarterfinal between paiN and GamerLegion? You'll be playing the winner of that one.
I think we are cheering for paiN because if they win, we will have a Brazilian team in the finals. I think they can do it, but let's see. The Counter-Strike in this event has been crazy. Everybody can beat everybody.
Tomorrow at 04:30PM, Legacy will play the winner of the paiN v GamerLegion quarterfinal.
