Breaking: FalleN announces retirement on stage at IEM Rio
Moments ago, FURIA IGL, two-time major winner and legend of Counter-Strike, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo announced he would retire from playing at the end of 2026. The Brazilian captain will play out the rest of the year with FURIA before hanging up the mouse at year's end.
The moment was an emotional one with many in the crowd shedding tears over the speech. With a career spanning over 20 years, it is simply impossible to tell the story of Counter-Strike without talking about FalleN.

He then began entering international events like the World Cyber Games and ESWC on FireGamers and CompLexity. After transitioning back to primarily domestic play in early CS:GO, FalleN eventually earned his way into the major circuit, making the playoffs of the ESL One: Katowice 2015 Major on Keyd Stars.
From there, he would become one of the most consistently elite IGLs in the world. From Katowice 2015 to Katowice 2019, he never missed the playoffs of a major. He made the top four six times and won back-to-back majors in 2016 with Luminosity in Columbus and SK in Cologne. In addition to his major achievements, he won other notable events like two seasons of ESL Pro League, EPICENTER 2017, and ESL One Cologne 2017.
After a difficult period with MIBR, FalleN joined Liquid with mixed results. When many players would have retired, FalleN instead put together the Last Dance lineup of other veteran Brazilians, who were signed to Imperial. In July of 2023, he made the leap back to tier one with FURIA. Though they were inconsistent at first, FURIA ended 2025 with two major playoff appearances and several tier-one trophies. In 2026, they remain an elite team capable of contending for big trophies.
FalleN is more than a player; he is an icon. In CS:GO, his teams brought Brazil to the top of the world and put an entire nation back in the limelight when it seemed impossible. He shaped the meta of the game in many ways and persevered where many would quit. As evidenced by the tears of his fans in the Farmasi Arena today, he has influenced the lives of millions. The Counter-Strike world will lose a giant at the end of 2026, but we should be happy and proud that we got to experience over 20 years of the Professor.
Obrigado, Professor.
