ESL Challenger League S51 Cup 2 Day 5: LAG, Aether advance to lower finals

The lower bracket is nearing its conclusion.

Both lower semifinal matches went down last night in ESL Challenger League Season 51 Cup 2.

LAG defeated F5 in one match while Aether reverse-swept Outfit 49 in the other one.

United States LAG 2-0 United States F5

F5 got things started on the first map with Mirage. LAG were the ones who took control from the jump, though, as they stormed out to a 7-0 lead that they converted into an 11-1 advantage at halftime. F5 mounted a comeback in the second half, but it wasn't near enough as they fell 13-7.

Dust2 was LAG's pick, and despite F5 starting with a 2-0 lead, LAG came right back with ten rounds in a row to hold a 10-2 lead after the first half. F5 fought back in the second half once again, but it was LAG who closed out with another 13-7 victory.

United States Aether 2-1 United States Outfit 49

Aether's map pick was Nuke to begin the other lower semifinal match. Outfit 49 elected to start on the favored CT side, but Aether went up 5-0 early on. O49 battled back to level the score at 6-6 at halftime, but Aether would have come out happier with their solid T side. Aether began the second half with three rounds in a row to take a slight advantage, but Outfit 49 answered back with seven of the final nine rounds to steal their opponents' map pick 13-11.

Aether had a tall task ahead of them, as they had to take Outfit 49's Anubis pick to stay alive in the series. Aether showed they were up for the challenge, winning the first six rounds on the CT side, which gave them a commanding 10-2 halftime lead. Outfit 49 made the game more competitive, but Aether won the map easily, 13-7.

Mirage was the decider, and it was a dogfight from the get-go. Neither team could string more than two rounds together in the first half, with Aether holding the slimmest of margins at 7-5 at the interval. Aether finally built some momentum in the second half, as they won a few rounds in a row to help propel them to the 13-9 victory.
