malbsMd: "I'm looking forward to being a new person, a new player as well"
Before the start of Liquid's run in Rotterdam, Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa did an interview with HLTV reporter Luís "MIRAA" Mira. As this is the first event for the new lineup, the event will be an opportunity to learn more about what they need to focus on going forward.
He touched on difficulties during his time on G2, first impressions of the new team, and how his role might change in a different environment.
It's no secret that while he had patches of brilliance, malbsMd struggled to find consistent form on G2. In 2026, he averaged a tepid 1.02 rating overall and a 0.94 against top ten opponents.
When asked about his feelings on the new challenges ahead amid recent struggles, he gave some optimistic insight.
I think I just needed, like, a new environment to play in, and that's what is exciting me the most. Of course, I'm excited to play with the boys, but I'm looking forward to being a new person, a new player as well. That's what I'm kind of looking forward to. I want to be the malbs that I once was, and I'm hoping to find myself again.
He went on to talk about his early impressions of the new team relative to G2, and how his role might change:
I think it's good, because we have a really big voice in EliGE, and from what I've played with him just now, I think he has a really good voice, and he's trying to help siuhy with the comms and everything.
But I think I'm going to have a more chill time, trying to think more on myself as a player a little bit, because I was trying to focus on forcing myself to be this kind of communicative player, and I couldn't focus really on myself. I think it's going to be good.
Though the team hasn't practiced much due to the stand-in at the Roman Imperium Cup, they will have several smaller LANs coming up after their appearance in Rotterdam. malbsMd talked about what those events mean to the team:
I think we just need to focus on practicing, working on those small details, the basics and all of this stuff so we can be strong on fundamentals. That is the most important thing for when we play these kinds of events, like DraculaN and all that stuff, that we play smaller teams or a little bit worse teams. We just need to be really good at fundamentals and all of this.
While their first match will be a tough one against Spirit, he still views it as an opportunity to "see what we can work on and what we're lacking, so that can give us a structure on the mistakes." That match will begin tomorrow at 08:30AM.
