A strong start for junior and Jeorge

PGL Bucharest NA Closed Qualifier Day #1 recap: Favorites dominate

It was not a competitive night of Counter-Strike.

Day one of the North American Closed Qualifier for PGL Bucharest 2026 finished last night after four opening matches. The four series all ended relatively quickly, with four 2-0s, in which no losing team got to ten rounds on a single map. Though no teams are eliminated yet, the four losers last night have a long road ahead of them in the lower bracket.

Though both came through the open qualifiers rather than receiving a VRS invite, LAG and Wildcard still thrashed their opponents. LAG beat FlyQuest RED 13-5/13-4 and Wildcard took down Sakura 13-5/13-3.

United States BOSS 2-0 United States Aether

BOSS picked Nuke, but lost the first four rounds to Aether. However, this was the only time in the series when they weren't leading. BOSS won the last eight rounds of the first half and the first four of the second. Though they dropped two, they quickly closed out their pick 13-6.

Aether's pick of Mirage was not much more competitive. BOSS had another convincing 8-4 first half and took the second pistol. Aether got three back, but BOSS still closed it out 13-7, taking the series 2-0.

United States Voca 2-0 Fisher College

In the first match with Voca fielding Paytyn "junior" Johnson and Jeorge "Jeorge" Endicott, the duo put up strong performances to get a win over Fisher College.

The series started on Fisher’s Ancient pick, but you could hardly tell they chose it as Voca won the first seven rounds in a row. Fisher managed to get some rounds at the end of the half, but Voca still led 8-4. The second half was even less competitive as Voca won every round to steal their opponent's pick 13-4.

Voca picked Overpass, and it was a much more competitive affair. The first half saw rounds traded back and forth, but Voca entered the second half down 5-7. After losing the second pistol and conversion, it seemed like we might get a close race. Then, Voca won eight rounds in a row to close the map 13-9, ending the series.
