NRG eliminated from Krakow in close loss to Falcons
Condemned to the lower bracket, NRG took #4-ranked Falcons the distance before suffering their Stage 2 exit from Krakow.
Despite Inferno being NRG's pick, the opening map was a complete blowout for the favorites in Falcons, who commanded the first half 11-1. Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov was simply unstoppable, going 20-10 with a 118.9 ADR.
On the first pistol of Ancient, an unfazed Alexander "br0" Bro would stoically knife Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski for the round win. NRG quickly flew to a 5-0 lead, extended to 6 by a 4k from Joshua "oSee" Ohm.
Come halftime, NRG were up a comfortable 10-2. Although Falcons rallied in the second half, the North Americans converted on map point, denying m0NESY a 1v2 stake for overtime. Truly, Ancient was an example of "oSee supremacy" as the AWPer finished 26-16 with a 1.85 rating.
Having traded map picks, NRG and Falcons headed to Dust2 to determine which team would survive in Krakow. Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella asserted his presence early by single-handedly turning the tides of a 3v5 deficit. m0NESY's AWPing remained a headache for NRG, however, diminishing their halftime lead to just 2 rounds. The Europeans' CT side started strong to tie the game 7-7.
Eventually, Falcons took the lead 9-8, leaving NRG with little in the way of economy. From here, m0NESY and co. marched on to match point, and all NRG could do was prolong the inevitable 9-13 defeat.
