American-owned Copenhagen Wolves pause CS division
The American-owned Copenhagen Wolves organization has announced they are pausing their Counter-Strike 2 division and transfer-listing their lineup. The Copenhagen Wolves brand was revived by Jared "jared" Habib, a North American player, in December 2023 before signing a European squad in January 2024.
Since then, Copenhagen Wolves' lineup has undergone a significant number of changes while floating around the 80-100 range in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS). In the announcement, Copenhagen Wolves stated that the decision to transfer-list their lineup came down to a lack of results and the challenges facing smaller organizations in maintaining a competitive squad in the current esports ecosystem.
The organization closed by saying that they hope to return to the scene after reevaluating their plans for Counter-Strike 2.
In a statement on X, Habib said:
This is not by any means a decision we took lightly.
Ultimately I want to expand Wolves into many games, have a top cs team and bring back the glory we once had.
Right now, the current ecosystem makes it hard to find sustainability. I want to take a step back to reevaluate the entire esports scene and plan our next entry in the future. I appreciate the approach ecstatic took and give them a lot of credit. Similarly to them, we are actively looking for additional partners that would help us bring the Wolves back as soon as possible.
Habib's plans to find new sponsors comes as a number of teams have been squeezed by Valve's new rules barring skins sites from appearing on broadcast, a move that has effectively devalued and disincentivized skins sites from sponsoring teams. Copenhagen Wolves are one of many teams sponsored by case opening site SkinRave.
The Copenhagen Wolves roster consisted of:
-
Sindre "Tapewaare" Ellefsen -
Maciej "b1elany" Biliński -
Mateo "Matheos" Prišlin -
Mikkel "n1xen" Borlund -
Georgi "Jorko" Mitev -
Martin "Sinzey" Christensen (Coach)
