Not even OCEAN can believe subtLe got a free pass to China

WESG Day Two: Cloud9 perfect again; Mythic forfeit not-so subtLe-y

Move over Kjaerbye, we have a new Top 10 Anime Betrayal.

The second day of matches have concluded in the WESG North American finals, and we have seen several teams complete their tournament runs. Read on for a summary of the days action.

The day played out largely as expected, with the only true 50/50 match being between Mythic and Swole Patrol, which Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir's men were able to earn the win on.

The full results were as follows:

Canada subtLe 8-16 Brazil SK Train
United States Cloud9 16-12 Canada FRENCH CANADIANS Train
United States Swole Patrol 5-16 Brazil SK Overpass
United States Mythic 13-16 United States Swole Patrol Cache
United States Cloud9 16-8 Canada subtLe Mirage
Canada FRENCH CANADIANS 16-8 Canada subtLe Overpass

With a flawless group stage, Cloud9 are the undisputed number one seed heading into the playoffs, followed by SK. Finding themselves at the bottom of the group were Mythic and subtLe,. and the pair were set to play a match to determine which would go on to the World Finals in China.

However, the stream team inexplicably decided to forfeit this all-important match, thereby rendering their entire participation in the event pointless. One can only imagine how the members of Etherian (formerly Bushido Boyz) must feel, knowing the team that ended their chances of of attending the event potentially never intended to go in the first place.

The WESG North America standings after day one are:

Team Matches Wins Losses Round Differential Points
United States Cloud9 5 5 0 +48 15
Brazil SK 5 4 1 +23 12
Canada FRENCH CANADIANS 5 3 2 +20 9
United States Swole Patrol 5 2 3 -34 6
United States Mythic 5 1 4 -27 3
Canada subtLe 5 0 5 -30 0

GooseBreeder and her other Damn Canadians have reigned supreme

In the female event, Those Damn Canadians have played the role of Cloud9, going perfect throughout the group stage. Despite CLG Red's Emma "Emy" Choe being the statistically best player of the event, the Canadian pair of Team X's Stephanie "missharvey" Harvey and Dignitas' Mounira "GooseBreeder" Dobie has proved too much to handle for the other teams.

The full results for the female tournament so far are:

United States American Eagles 9-16 Canada Those Damn Canadians Overpass
United States CLG Red 16-8 Canada Poutine Puggers Train
United States Freedom Fraggers 6-16 Canada Those Damn Canadians Inferno
United States American Eagles 16-5 United States Poutine Puggers Nuke

The results will sadly see Poutine Puggers exit the tournament, with the other four teams headed to the single-elimination bracket to determine which of them will be representing North America in China.

The table of results after the first day is as follows:

Team Matches Wins Losses Round Differential Points
Canada Those Damn Canadians 4 4 0 +33 12
United States CLG Red 4 3 1 +33 9
United States American Eagles 4 2 2 -3 6
United States Freedom Fraggers 4 1 3 -15 3
Canada Poutine Puggers 4 0 4 -48 0

The tournament will resume tomorrow at 3 PM EST with Those Damn Canadians taking on Freedom Fraggers. On the men's side of the event, Cloud9 and Swole Patrol will be the first match of the day, scheduled to start at 6 PM EST.

As a fan of Mythic, this is just disappointing. I feel bad for Etherian and any other teams who would've been grateful for the opportunity to compete at the lan.

True. It's sad that Mythic are unwilling to go to LAN.
