WolfY: "We're lacking someone who is consistently getting kills"
Adam "WolfY" Andersson and Marsborne made playoffs in Fragville 2025, but their run was cut short in the quarterfinals, as they lost to Ninjas in Pyjamas.
Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore interviewed WolfY before the NIP game to discuss what is holding Marsborne back in the latest events, how WolfY feels about the team's raw firepower, and why they've lost so much to SkinRave in elimination games.
The full interview can be found below on YouTube, with key snippets underneath. All questions and answers have been slightly edited for the sake of clarity.
How are you feeling about the firepower level on Marsborne right now? Do you think the team has enough raw firepower outside of tactics to compete with some of the strong teams in NA at the moment?
I think we do. Our issue is mostly consistency. I feel like we're a team that really punches above our weight. When we play better teams, we usually sometimes shoot harder, but when we play lower-level teams, we struggle a little bit.
I think that overall, the people have the firepower, but right now we're kind of lacking that one person who just really is consistently at like 1.20 or 1.25 rating. Someone who is consistently getting kills.
This is a good and a bad thing because I think if you rely so much on one player, it's hard. But, at the same time, the games vary with who is shooting, it's also kind of hard. So, I think we have the firepower, but we really need to focus, work on our consistency, and be shooting back no matter who we play.
That does sound like that might be a liability in some ways. Not having someone who you can rely on to be electric and post those kinds of map-defining ratings. Is there someone, as the IGL, that you're looking to on the team to be that person? And, if so, how are you going to set up that person to be the star player?
Right now, our system is a bit different. When you're an AWPer IGL, you rely more on a rifler to give information and do a lot of the dirty work. So, for us, we said in the middle of the year that we needed to spread out the responsibility a bit more, so that I can put up more numbers because I'm an AWPer, but I still need to be a star player.
Bringing in viz, he's also been putting up a lot of numbers, and I think Grizz has a lot of expectations to get kills as well, because he's known for his aim. I think what's hurting him is the mistakes he's making and his understanding of the game, but if he can fix it, he will definitely be a player that we look to be putting up those numbers. He has more than enough mechanics for it.
I would say right now that viz is being very consistent and is putting up a lot of numbers on both sides. He's been taking a lot of responsibility, which is good.
Taking a look back at Marsborne's recent results, we saw you guys finish top four at Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series #3 after getting knocked out by BLUEJAYS, who's now SkinRave. You've been knocked out by them in the last three events. What do you think makes them your kryptonite?
I don't know. I'd say maybe they're a really strong Dust2 team, and for us, Dust2 is pretty rocky. It's gone back and forth, we had moments where we were pretty good on it, but the last time we played BLUEJAYS, our CT-side was pretty meh. Usually, our CT-side is better than our T-sides, but obviously, that game flip-flops.
Overall, their vetoes are pretty strong. I think the addition of Walco has helped them a lot. I think that we just struggled a bit with coming out on top. I felt like we were really close, but also so far at the same time. So, it's kind of hard to pinpoint what it really is.
Marsborne had a really good event at Fragadelphia x Block in March, and since then, you've been kind of chasing that high. How do you feel about your chances of going deep in this event, and potentially attaining that top-four, top-two finish that you had at the start of the year?
We're as confident as we can be. We know it's going to be hard because there are better teams at this event, to be honest, compared to the first Frag. You have European teams, we're likely going to play NIP in the playoffs, which are a really good EU team.
And, for us, like I said, it might sound ridiculous, and I'm repeating myself, but it really comes down to the individual consistency. Some days, we make really good individual decisions, and we have a good macro plan, but we falter in the aim. Some days, we falter in the aim and the individual decisions. We lose a lot of clutch rounds.
So, we just have to stay on top of it, keep our mental. I think that a big thing for us as well is not to get frustrated, not to get tilted, and just have a strong mental, and push through as hard as we can.
That's going to give us our best chances, and understand that we don't have much to lose, especially when we play NIP, ODDIK, Wildcard, and some of these teams that are seen as better than us. We just really can't put the pressure on ourselves. [We need to] play like the underdogs and come out swinging.
What you and Lucid have done, or what do you want to do to help improve the individual consistency of the players on this team?
One thing we've done a lot is basically we've been doing a lot of like..we had a bootcamp before this event at the Marsborne headquarters. We've spent a lot of time working on just watching individual demos and telling players how they should think in certain situations, and what they should pick up on in-game cues, for example.
I think that has really helped us, and then on top of that, I think just playing more CS in general. We get into periods where we play a lot of CS, and we're practicing a lot individually. Then we slide a little bit, we get a little bit lazy maybe, and then we find ourselves in that repeat.
We really have to be consistent and believe in our system, and stick to it. Try to help each other as much as we can. Lucid and I spend a lot of time working with people one-on-one, and we are slowly but surely getting there. But in CS, you're tackling a lot of different problems all the time. Once you fix one, another one arises. That's just how it is.
