WolfY: "You're very limited to players in NA, and viz is overall a really good teammate"
Marsborne made the playoffs of Fragadelphia 19, their first LAN since Wesley "viz" Harris returned to the team as their new fifth.
They ended up falling to Fluxo in the quarterfinals, and Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore had the chance to ask Adam "WolfY" Andersson their thoughts on reaching playoffs, and why they picked viz instead of trying someone new.
The complete interview can be found below on YouTube, with key snippets underneath. The questions and answers were slightly edited for clarity and length.
I'm here with WolfY following a 2-1 loss to Fluxo in the quarterfinals. How do you feel?
Mixed feelings. Of course, it sucks losing, but at the same time, we still showed some fight. I feel like if we had a few more rounds on T-side of Train going our way, we could have brought that series home. As for Ancient, we've been struggling a lot on T-side, so having a good CT-side was important. But yeah, mixed feelings, but overall we should still be happy with what we did.
More broadly, how are you feeling about your run here? Obviously, you made it to the playoffs, and taking LAG out is probably the highlight of the event for you guys. What are your thoughts coming out of FRAG 19?
I'm still satisfied. Like I said, we played NRG in groups, and played Fluxo now. Even though we didn't take the maps, we still did play close. That wasn't a series where we felt like we just got blown out. So, overall, I think we have a lot to take from it, especially with viz joining the roster now, and having limited practice. We have a lot to work on. Obviously, the results could have been better, and we want more, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. We just have to do the best we can with what we have.
Why did you pick up viz? Obviously, you picked him up after a long time of not having a formal fifth, so I'm sure you had time to look at other options, try out some other players. What ultimately led you back to viz?
We had a shortlist of players, but obviously, in NA, you're really limited. That's the biggest difference, in my opinion, of NA and Europe. We tried other people out, but we just didn't really feel like it was fitting. viz decided that he wanted to come back, and he was someone that we really wanted to play with because we're familiar with him.
And we know that he kind of brings the glue mentality to a team, and in my opinion, we were kind of lacking that. Ultimately, he was the best choice. At the same time, we have run into problems because right now there are a lot of people talking all the time. I think that was one thing that we're trying to look for more, when we're finding a new fifth, was someone that kind of wasn't.
But, at the end of the day, like I said, you're very limited to players [in NA], and viz is overall a really good teammate. He brings the glue to teams, and we kind of needed that.
FRAG and the EPL qualifier were your events since losing Minus. You've played after an extended period of break. Do you feel like there's any rust coming back in the competition?
I would say a little bit, maybe. But at the same time, no. It's like we haven't been playing the game. We cut our player break short because of playing with a new fifth, and we knew we had to practice. So, we didn't really have that much time off. And we know now, especially this month, it was going to be really packed. So, I think people overall played as much as they could, and I think if there's anything, we were just kind of rusty as a team, but heading into a tournament with a new fifth, it is hard.
