It's safe to say Liquid is a mess right now

siuhy: "Maybe we rushed a few things, maybe we skipped a few steps that we shouldn't have skipped"

Liquid's preparation for the Austin Major clearly did not yield the results siuhy expected.

Liquid have bombed out of the BLAST.tv Austin Major Stage Three after a heartbreaking loss to MOUZ in triple OT. The team exits Austin without a single win while also denying NA fans a chance to see a North American team at the region's first Major in seven years.

Following this loss, Dust2.us' Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore spoke to Liquid IGL Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek about Liquid's poor showing in Austin, what went wrong with their "exhausting bootcamp", Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak's standout performance in this series, and what comes next for Liquid.

You can watch the full interview on YouTube below, or read the transcription underneath. All questions and answers have been slightly edited for clarity.

Liquid went 0-3 here at the Major which was not the result the team were looking for. Why do you think things went so wrong for Liquid here in Austin?

What happened I'm not sure. I think I wanted to click on the server more than when we did. Like I said in an interview before, we clicked on Dust2 CT-Side where it was just a little bit too late although we could've closed the game out there as well and we could've just ran back the run from 0-2.

We started the tournament off on the wrong foot losing to Lynn Vision. We also had a tough game against The MongolZ and we felt like we were prepared and ready for the tournament but it didn't really click for us in that moment that we wanted.

Twistzz said in an interview with BLAST that Liquid's recent bootcamp was "exhausting". Did that bootcamp and the overall preparation for the Major was good, and if so why did you think he would say that?

I think every bootcamp that you play can be exhausting. At the end of the day the bootcamp is to play there and play as much as you can and prepare as many things as you can for the tournament. So no matter what, when you're in a bootcamp you're spending a lot more hours working on your craft than what you are at home.

It's very normal to be exhausted after a bootcamp or at least feel that exhaustion but it's important you find a way to reset and that is something we didn't do after the bootcamp. We just kept on grinding and that caught up to us on the first day of the tournament.

Before today I think we did a really good job... we came to the conclusion that exhaustion was the main concern for us and we had a good regeneration yesterday and the result instantly came in for today.

We played a lot better and clicked a lot faster so yeah.

One bright spot from this series was a great performance from ultimate, especially on Mirage. Are you proud of his performance at the Major?

Definitely. I think ultimate has a very high ceiling and very high potential. To see him shine now in an important game like this confirms the theory I have about him. I think he's really good and will have a really bright future ahead of him if he continues like this.

NAF's poor performances have been a topic of discussion since you joined the team as IGL. Where do we go from here to try to make NAF comfortable again and enable him to play at a level the team needs?

Since I joined we had three months to prepare for this tournament and we made it a priority to prepare for the Major. For any new IGL coming into the team it's very difficult to get to the standard that you wish you had for a Major.

We did a lot of preparation since I joined and on the way here maybe we rushed a few things, maybe we skipped a few steps that we shouldn't have skipped which could've caused people to feel uncomfortable and not focus on certain things that we knew that we could put aside for now at least.

I think that's the main thing that's happening. Obviously now we have a big break and we're going to look at that situation and look at it more closely about what we can do and what we can adapt. Maybe we'll have some changes in the server in terms of roles or positions, who knows?

Whatever will be needed, we'll look at it and think about it.

As part of that preparation for the Major Liquid opted to stick with DeMars DeRover as Interim Coach instead of finding a traditional coach. Do you think that's something we could see change heading into the next season and was it a mistake from Liquid management to not have a regular coach ready for the Major?

No one knows if Liquid tried to pursue a coach, so that's wrong to say. These things are always so difficult. There's a lot of contracts, there's a lot of things behind the scenes that the media or players don't even know about.

It's not as easy and black-and-white as people think.

DeMars DeRover has been doing an amazing job for us although it's not the most comfortable position for him. I think he did what it took and he made sure he gave 100% to everyone. I'm very happy with what he did and how he managed the situation.

Would you like to see a change in coaching staff for next season considering he is supposed to be Interim?

We will see.
