JT: "If you can't get out of Stage 1 of the 32-team Major, you just basically don't deserve to be there"
Complexity are out of BLAST.tv Austin Major Stage 1 after a 2-0 loss to TYLOO on June 5. They met on the 1-2 pool, and Complexity had back-to-back bad games.
The in-game leader Johnny "JT" Theodosiou agreed to do a short interview with Dust2.us' Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore after the elimination, in which he said that Complexity just had a "terrible showing from the start" and that if you can't get out of Stage 1, you don't deserve to in the Major.
All questions and answers below have been slightly edited for length and clarity.
So, not the result you wanted today, and Complexity are out of the Major in Stage 1. What do you think went so wrong?
Today, we were just really disjointed and slow on our decision-making in all the mid-rounds. Honestly, just that, mostly.
After going out 1-4 in maps, do you think there were any positives to take from this event, or was the team just completely disjointed after falling out so early?
I mean, I don't want to take it too hard because we do have a stand-in. We only had like a few weeks of practice with junior. I did expect us to play a lot better, we pretty much just had a terrible showing from the start. Not much to [say about positives], we were in a bad form in general.
I think a lot of people were looking at Complexity to go a lot further as one of the top teams in Stage 1. You mentioned having junior as a stand-in. Do you think things would have been different with hallzerk here?
I think things definitely would have been different with hallzerk, he's our actual starter, plus he's a really good AWPer. And, in terms of Stage 1, I think if you can't get out of Stage 1 of the 32-team Major, you just basically don't deserve to be there.
We saw a really rough tournament from nicx, especially in this final match versus TYLOO. Do you think that it just comes down to his lack of Major experience? What do you think as his captain? Was it something mental, or what can you point to?
I'm not sure. I think all of us, the whole team, had a bad event. So, I'm not going to just pump on one person and speak about them. I think we just weren't playing together. We were trying to get into good situations, and when we did, we just still fucked those up. I don't want to speak about just one person's performances.
With you now heading to the player break, people will be talking about the coaching situation. Can you say anything at this time? Like, whether adreN is someone you've been enjoying working with, and if he has a future as the coach of this team?
No decisions have been made, and I don't make them either, so I don't know. But, I did enjoy working with adreN and I also enjoyed working with junior. That's all.
What are you going to be working on before coming back for the second half of the season?
I'm not sure yet. I haven't spoken about it yet, we'll see when we come back to practice.
