32 kills from WARDELL was just enough to help Orgless secure a 16-14 win against Station7

Majority of favorites advance in day one of first FLASHPOINT qualifier

A number of top Advanced and MDL squads will meet tonight to claim two spots in the Closed Qualifier.

Day one of the first qualifier for FLASHPOINT has concluded, seeing eight teams left in the hunt for two spots in the closed qualifier out of the 88 that initially signed up.

The first two rounds of the bracket went off without any major upsets, with the only notable team dropping out of the qualifier at this time being Peruvian squad Supremacy.

In the third round a number of Advanced and MDL squads began to meet, with most matches playing out as expected. Infinity, Prospects, and Big Frames fell to Orgless, Oceanus, and Michael "dapr" Gulino's New Patrol, respectively.

Round three also saw New England Whalers best Divine 16-13 however the statistic is far less impressive when considering that Divine ended up playing 4v5 after Brady "thief" Dever left the server for an unknown reason mid-game. Notably New England Whalers are using Ramal "Rampage" Silva as a stand-in for this qualifier following Marc-Andre "NiSMO" Tayar's decision to step down from the team yesterday.

In the round of sixteen, New England Whalers were the first team to find their way into the quarterfinals with a one-sided 16-1 takedown of Brazen. Additionally, Third Impact crushed Main team conflicted 16-4.

Continuing on with the quick matches, LiViD and New Patrol both found 16-7 wins over Asuna's Anime Aimers and Faint, respectively.

The remainder of the matches were far closer as Super Nova found a close upset against Oceanus, besting the team 16-14 on Mirage.

Likewise,  a 30 frag game from Josh "pwny" VanGorder helped see RBG narrowly advance with a 16-14 win over ETHEREAL.

With Taylor "Drone" Johnson in place of Jason "neptune" Tran, Ze Pug Godz's run was also ended by Rap Gang, with the MDL team taking Dust2 16-10.

The final series of the day also went the distance as Station7 almost sent Orgless packing. However, a massive performance from Matthew "WARDELL" Yu was enough to overpower Station7 to take Nuke 16-14.

With day one concluded, the following quarterfinals matches will kick off today at 6PM EST:

United States Super Nova vs. United States Third Impact
United States RBG vs. United States Rap Gang
Canada LiViD vs. United States New Patrol
Canada Orgless vs. United States New England Whalers

The full bracket is available here.

As previously mentioned, two teams will qualify today to the North American closed qualifier. Teams who were unsuccessful this time around still have three more chances to qualify, with dates and links to the remaining qualifiers on the Dust2.us Calendar.
