Debutante rosters make Impact felt in 2023

The Chimkin squad got its first tournament win in its first outing.

Chimkin, a new team on the block, won the first tournament of the year for the women's season in North America, as the first ESL Impact Cash Cup of 2023 saw eight teams battling it out for the $1,000 prize pool from January 14th to January 15th.

Some household names from the NA women's scene were missing, such as CLG Red, and EG Gold. Chimkin took advantage of that and beat gxp, Valkyries, and ECHO en-route to the tournament win, debuting with a 16-0, and winning the grand final with 16-2 and 16-3 scores. The series between Chimkin and Valkyries was close, but the recently-announced team managed to come out on top.

The new additions to the Valkyries roster, Abby "abby" and Vanessa "Vanessa" Gideon, started out the stint with the team in a strong way, with both managing to top the fragging list at least once in four maps.

Another new squad in the scene is the Peruvian Equity. The roster was officially announced during the second day of the tournament but managed to get a 3rd-4th finish in the first outing as a team.

With the new season just starting, the women's scene is getting more and more competitive. Can the Chimkin squad dethrone CLG Red? Will this be the season where the Valkyries make the jump? There are many more questions, but only time will tell.

The final standings of the first ESL Impact Cash Cup North America of 2023 are:

1. United States Chimkin - $750
2. ECHO - $250
3-4. United States Valkyries
3-4. Equity
