paiN bring it to Masonic
Kicking off a legendary event in Barcelona, Flow FiReLEAGUE is hosting an entire CS:GO event inside the Camp Nou, home of FC Barcelona. In the opening match of the day, the Brazilians of paiN are facing off against the Danes from MASONIC. paiN is coming off a troubling RMR event where the organization failed to replicate their success earlier this year and will not be headed to the second Major of 2022. There is little time to feel sorry for themselves as they have several events ahead of them.
The best-of-three started off on MASONIC's pick of Vertigo, where the Danes were started out with a pistol round win as the offense, but after the initial three rounds, they would have trouble finding any sort of footing in the half. paiN were dominant in their defense and would come back to put a 10-5 scoreline up by halftime.
However, this dominance would not translate to the second half. paiN found themselves unable to get anything going, despite winning the opening half pistol. paiN lost five post-plant situations, each of which put them further and further into the hole. They would lose to a surprise comeback from MASONIC 16-14.
In the second map, paiN was far more comfortable as they were on their map pick of Dust2. paiN certainly brought the paiN to MASONIC as they opened their account with a T-side pistol win and a resulting 7-1 lead. The Brazilians were dominant on their T-side and would not let the Danes build up an effective defense.
After a strong first half ending in 10-5, once again, there was the fear that paiN would repeated their second-half collapse like they did on Vertigo. The short answer; they did not. paiN wrapped up their second half quickly as they won the second half pistol and took the lead to 14-5. Despite some late struggles, the game was put to bed 16-9.
Finally, the match came down to the ever-troublesome Ancient, where paiN looked to be a cut above thanks to their strong T-side. After winning the pistol and gaining a valuable seven rounds on their offensive side, they switched to the defense, where any Ancient viewer knows is the more favorable side.
Despite losing the opening pistol and going down 11-7, paiN were able to rally back and tie it all up at 12-12 thanks to several clutch situations. With so many bomb plants, MASONIC had the money to continue forward and put paiN on the back foot, but thanks to an eco win defense, the Brazilians held strong and brought it to overtime.
In overtime, it was a constant back and forth, with both sides pushing against one another to the limit. After an extreme three overtime venture, paiN were the victors 24-21. MASONIC are eliminated from the event.
