IEM Rio RMR Matchup Calculator released

The author behind the famous swiss system projection website has updated the tool to include the upcoming RMRs.

One of the most exciting parts of the upcoming major cycle is when fans are able to debate about who will be making it through the swiss-system gauntlet. In recent years, CS:GO fans have been able to rely on this website a created by twitter user CyberHono to hypothesize, strategize, and find out who their favorite team will be playing next.

The site began back in 2019 for IEM Katowice and received significant attention for its ability to easily show the potential matchups for each stage of the complicated swiss-system process. Since then, it has been used in every Major cycle with the website's author updating the site almost instantaneously after matches are concluded.

With the Regional Major Rankings now playing a huge part of the Major process, and also using the same swiss-system qualification style, fans wanted to use the site to play along. Last Major, the author released a section where visitors would be able to use the system for the RMRs and has now done it again for IEM Rio.

The website has become incredibly useful, with community members such as fans and media members, to the actual players, relying on this website to forecast future opponents.

The seeding, as described by an ESL blog post is below:

Fact box
  • Teams coming from the top 16 at the PGL Antwerp Major will be seeded 1st - 3rd in the order of their final placing from that event

  • Teams coming from the open qualifiers will be seeded 4th - 16th

  • Based on the final placing at the PGL Antwerp Major, teams coming from the open qualifiers will be seeded as follows:
    ○ 1st - 3rd from SA open qualifier 1 will be seeded 4th, 6th and 8th

Teams will travel to Stockholm, Sweden for the competition which will see the top six finishers qualify for the Rio Major. The first matches are set for October 5th at 06:00AM, which some have criticized as too early for many American viewers and why the RMR should have been held somewhere in the Americas instead.
