Makzwell and his other former X13 teammates will now be on the hunt for new opportunities

X13 roster announces parting of ways

Some of the former X13 members may have already figured out plans for the upcoming season.

The players of X13 have individually announced that they will be parting ways and looking for individual offers. The decision for these players to go their separate ways comes after the squad had a run in ESEA Advanced Season 41 that left much to be desired, with a 9-12th place exit after losses at the hands of Philadelphia Liberty and eventual Advanced winners ONET4P.

X13 entered Season 41 of Advanced with fairly high hopes, after being joined by former Touch Point rifler Noah "flixxy" French in place of Austin "Sway" Pollock. Early in the season, X13 looked fairly solid, posting a 7-1 record as June closed in, but the squad stalled out in the latter half of the season, only securing two more wins in the remainder of the regular season, enough to clinch a playoffs spot.

In the playoffs X13 got dealt an unfortunate early draw, squaring off against ONET4P, a squad generally considered to be favorites to win the whole season of Advanced outright. X13 managed double digits on both maps against the heavyweight team, but it was not enough to stop ONET4P from besting them 2-0. A 2-0 victory over Limitless kept X13's hopes alive briefly before their run was soon dashed by a 1-2 loss dealt out by Philadelphia Liberty.

The first player to announce his departure from the squad was flixxy, who stated that he would be stepping back from competitive Counter-Strike as a whole due to a lack of motivation. A week after flixxy's announcement, AWPer Max "Makzwell" Sparrey, whose tenure with X13 has lasted almost a year, similarly announced that he would be stepping down from X13.

X13 coach Kieran "KayJay" Playfair announced his departure shortly afterward, although unlike the announcements of his teammates, he hinted that he had already found a new home, with the announcement "coming soon". Days later, Kaid "bootylord" Miller also announced that he would be on the hunt for a new home.

These four announcements leave Matthew "scar" Bruni and Josh "JBa" Barutt the two remaining players from X13 to not publicly announce their intent to hunt for a new squad. It is worth noting that these two players have recently been seen playing with former Strife IGL Bobby "stamina" Eitrem, who previously stated that he would be looking to build a project with players with Advanced and ECL experience. Dust2.us reached out to X13 analyst Ashlynn “Valkenn” Brady for comment regarding her plans, and she clarified that she would also be pursuing something new in the coming season.

X13's roster for Advanced Season 41 was:

  • Canada Matthew "scar" Bruni

  • United States Max "Makzwell" Sparrey

  • United States Kaid "bootylord" Miller

  • United States Josh "JBa" Barutt

  • United States Noah "flixxy" French

  • Canada Kieran "KayJay" Playfair (Coach)

  • United States Ashlynn "Valkenn" Brady (Analyst)

These players have some time to find new homes before Season 42 of both ECL and Advanced kick off, with the leagues not set to begin until August 16th.
