TACO's men completed the lower bracket run to earn a place in the main event

GODSENT qualify for ESL Challenger Valencia

The Brazilian side will be heading to Spain in a month's time.

The North American closed qualifier for ESL Challenger Valencia has drawn to a close, with GODSENT completing a run through the lower bracket to reign supreme and book themselves a ticket to the main event which is set to run in Spain from July 1st–July 3rd.

GODSENT's opening matchup in the four-team closed qualifier pitted the team against ATK where a trip to Mirage saw the two teams be near-inseparable for the entire map. Eventually, however, the international squad would manage to pull ahead after a double-overtime affair, snatching Mirage 22-20 to lead 1-0 in the series.

Although Mirage was as close as it could get, the second map of Vertigo was a blowout in favor of ATK, seeing the side cruise to an over-powering 11-4 lead on the CT-side. From there, it was a simple case of Rhys "Fadey" Armstrong's men finding the five remaining rounds with only token resistance from their foes to take the map 16-7 and send GODSENT down to the lower bracket.

Looking to rebound from their opening loss, GODSENT squared off against their Brazilian compatriots in oNe where the series got underway on the latter's pick of Nuke, with GODSENT posting a flawless CT-side effort to go into the attack with a whopping 15-0 advantage. Despite this, oNe soon posted a near impenetrable defense of their own, winning thirteen on the bounce to bring the game back to a competitive scoreline. Nonetheless, this comeback would all be in vain, with Epitacio "TACO" De Melo's boys posting the singular round they needed to take Nuke 16-13, bringing an end to a rather unconventional map.

Even though GODSENT began the second map of Ancient on the T-side, it didn't stop them from storming ahead to an impressive 10-5 lead by the switch. With the wind in their sails, GODSENT wasted no time in finding the six rounds they required with relative ease, wrapping up the map 16-6 and the series 2-0 in the process.

A rematch between GODSENT and ATK took place for the Consolidation final, with the two teams once again kicking things off on ATK's pick of Mirage. The hard-fought nature from the opening match continued once more, but this time it was the Brazilians who managed to pull away, leading their opening CT-side 9-6. With overtime looking like a real possibility, TACO and company dug deep and managed to clinch the map 16-14 to go up 1-0 in the series.

GODSENT looked unstoppable once on their pick of Overpass, drumming up an early 10-5 lead by the time the two sides swapped. With Bruno "latto" Rebelatto firing on all cylinders and ATK unable to find answers, it didn't take long for the Brazilian quintet to add the remaining six rounds to the board to steal Overpass 16-8 and get their revenge from earlier in the tournament; setting the stage for a grand finals matchup versus paiN.

The Brazilian grand final derby got started on GODSENT's pick of Ancient where a strong CT-side by paiN gave the visitors an 11-4 lead by the swap. The one-sided map in favor of paiN continued into the second half, with Gabriel "nython" Lino and co., soon finding five rounds to GODSENT's two to take Ancient 16-6 and go 1-0 up in the finals.

Heading to Vertigo, GODSENT managed to brush aside paiN's opening five-round lead by finding ten rounds in a row of their own in a determined bid to tie the series up. From here on out, Vertigo was firmly in the hands of the GODSENT camp, with TACO's men quickly adding six rounds to their tally to bring the series to an even 1-1 scoreline.

The two teams then descended to Inferno for the deciding map of the final with GODSENT quickly looking like the team most deserving of the lone spot up for grabs after posting ten quick rounds on their T-side. This powerful showing from the GODSENT squad didn't let up once on the defense, with the Brazilian side finding six rounds in quick succession to take Inferno 16-7 and successfully complete the lower bracket run and earn themselves a place at the main event.
