maLeK's dismissal comes ahead of a potential ESIC sanction for the French coach

Evil Geniuses transfer-list maLeK, release EVY and Hepa

Evil Geniuses have characterized the trio's removal as the start of the "next chapter" for their CS:GO division.

Evil Geniuses have made the shock announcement that they have benched and transfer-listed French coach Damien "maLeK" Marcel while also releasing assistant coach Paolo "EVY" Berbudeau and analyst Juan "Hepa" Borges. The organization's gutting of their coaching staff follows the team bombing out of multiple events, including the Americas RMR qualifier for PGL Antwerp Major 2022.

maLeK joined Evil Geniuses at the start of the year as part of a complete reworking of the division which saw Evil Geniuses reassemble the ELEAGUE Major Boston 2018 winning core of Jake "Stewie2K" Yip, Timothy "autimatic" Ta, and William "RUSH" Wierzba. Despite the team featuring many players at the lowest points in their careers, the addition of maLeK was considered a slam dunk due to his incredible tenure with G2, which maLeK helped mold into an international powerhouse.

Unfortunately for Evil Geniuses, good coach or not, the team has had shambolic form in the first half of the year, with the squad bombing out of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups and ESL Pro League Season 15 before failing to qualify to the Major. This trilogy of failures along with some online blunders, led Evil Geniuses' CEO, Nicole LaPointe Jameson, to hint that changes were coming to the squad in late April.

While the squad's performance is almost assuredly a part of the reason for maLeK's dismissal, he is also likely to face some form of sanction from ESIC as part of the coaching bugs scandal due to a clip from Dexerto of maLeK triggering the third-person bug. While the length of the ban is yet to be determined, it likely didn't help his standing among Evil Geniuses' management alongside the team's failings.

Dust2.us knows from sources within Evil Geniuses that the dismissal of EVY and Hepa came as a complete surprise for the duo, with them not being informed prior to the release of Evil Geniuses' tweet. The duo had attended a team meeting as recently as this afternoon to discuss the team's future plans.

Evil Geniuses are now:

  • United States Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte

  • Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov

  • United States Jake "Stewie2K" Yip

  • United States Timothy "autimatic" Ta

  • United States William "RUSH" Wierzba

  • Damien "maLeK" Marcel (Inactive Coach)
