DreamHack Stockholm Day One: Ghost upset Na`Vi; NRG out

Group B sees some high octane upset action in the first round.

DreamHack Masters Stockholm 2018 saw day one come to a close earlier, and the group with both North American teams saw some exciting scenes come their way.

First up were the opening games of Group B, and overtime action on Dust2 saw Ghost's Canadian trio lighting up the server for a win. Not many people can outfrag Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, but that was in the wheelhouse for Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik in this match up where he claimed 29 kills. The Ukrainian team were 9-6 up after their T-side, before Ghost mounted a strong comeback in the second half which gave them two match points, at 15-13. From there Na`Vi forced overtime, but Ghost stayed strong for a 19-17 win.

The other opening match saw NRG fall to NiP, a game which saw Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg show signs of performances past. Although NRG were dominantly ahead at the half, going in 10-5 up, the Swedish team answered back with full force, dropping just three rounds in the second half to secure a 16-13 opening game win. This meant NRG had to face Na`Vi in the following best-of-three elimination match.

What followed was a fairly close best-of-three between the two teams from opposing continents. NRG kicked off the match with a strong 12-3 lead on Inferno, but the second half saw Damian "daps" Steele and co. start seeing the game slip away from their hands. But NRG were just about able to grind out the required rounds for a 16-12 win.

Overpass followed, and it featured this absolute gem of a round. Although the Americans had a relatively strong start to the map, Na`Vi saw s1mple wake up and they went in only narrowly behind at 7-8. From there the Ukranian team pushed forward, losing only three rounds on their quest for a win, completed with a 16-11 scoreline.

Train was the decider, and in a similar fashion to their match against NiP, NRG started off strong before finishing behind. A 5-3 lead was reversed into an 8-7 deficit, and although they had a small resurgence at the start of the second half, it didn't come to much as they eventually fell 16-12 on the final map. This result meant NRG's Swedish journey came to a swift end at the bottom of Group B.
