WESG release statement about owed prize money
WESG have released a statement on Twitter to provide details on prize money that has yet to be distributed to teams who attended WESG Global Finals in Haikou, China just over four months ago. The clarification tweet from WESG comes after Denis "seized" Kostin took to Twitter earlier in the week to ask if anyone who attended the finals had been paid yet.
The statement points towards "missing or inaccurate information in the prize money agreement", and mentions that any international transaction over $40,000 USD needs to go through China's tax bureau. According to the post, WESG has paid out "close to half of the winners" so far.
Derrick "LILMAN" Boyne also replied to the statement to mention that he had yet to be reimbursed for his visa, although it is unknown whether WESG was supposed to be responsible for visa payments as well. His team, Swole Patrol, was eliminated 0-3 at the tournament, joining the Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo-led SK on their way out of the tournament. The old Cloud9 roster were able to make it to the quarterfinals, where they fell short to oNe in a best-of-three series.
Neither Cloud9 nor the MIBR roster will be able to attend WESG this time around with their current rosters, with the Brazilian side housing two North Americans and Cloud9 currently in flux with Martin "STYKO" Styk and Maikel "Golden" Selim in tow.
The WESG 2018-2019 USA Finals is set to take place at the Santa Anito Park in Los Angeles on an unconfirmed date, with the Canadian WESG Finals taking place at the Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo (EGLX) on October 26-28th in Toronto. The online qualifiers for both events have yet to be announced.
