eUnited steal top seed from Torqued as MDL season 27 draws to a close
Season 27 of MDL has come to an end with Swole Patrol's swift 16-2 throttling of subtLe on Overpass, allowing Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir and co. to move up to third place as playoffs draw near. The final day of matches also saw eUnited defeat ex-eRa to pick up their 13th win, knocking Torqued out of first seed and allowing eUnited to claim it for themselves.
Atmosphere impressed many as they debuted in MDL this season after being promoted from Main, putting up 12 wins against noteworthy teams such as Etherian, ex-Iceberg, and RONIN. All three of those teams will join Atmosphere in playoffs, with the first round of matchups set to kick off on Tuesday.
The tiebreakers from last week were resolved as subtLe and Grizzlys both found themselves unable to compete against their opposition, with the Grizzlys roster fielding only four players in their match against Most Wanted. Although they were able to compete with five players in the rest of their matchups, this single loss put them out of playoff contention early on.
F1-racecar-PEEK were at the whims of the ex-eRa roster, who's upset victory over Torqued last month put F1's chances of playoffs in jeopardy. Their only chance to make playoffs was by defeating Swole Patrol, and was additionally contingent upon ex-eRa losing against eUnited. A 16-3 loss on Train earlier today against freakazoid and co. ensured that F1-racecar-PEEK would not make the top eight, but leaves them the opportunity to return in season 28.
The fates of the BlackOut and RONIN rosters were also out of the hands of the players as both teams had completed their matches. A surprising loss from Mythic against subtLe ensured that BlackOut and RONIN had just one team to fear this week, and with F1-racecar-PEEK now out of the running, both teams have safely secured their slots.
