FaZe knocked out of IEM Atlanta after close loss to Vitality
FaZe were faced with the gargantuan task of beating Vitality in the Group A lower bracket semifinal. This matchup was only made possible after the tournament favorites, Vitality, lost to BetBoom in their previous match.
Vitality clutched up on Nuke before a clean win on Dust2 to send FaZe packing.
FaZe's Nuke pick was tight, with neither side able to take command at halftime nor at the end of regulation. In overtime, Robin "ropz" Kool looked like he broke FaZe's back with an improbable 1v2 spraydown to secure 15-13. FaZe forced round 30 with a 1v1 win from Jakub "jcobbb" Pietruszewski, but it was an ace from Shahar "flameZ" Shushan who denied FaZe entry into the A site and clinched the 16-14 win for Vitality, despite 31 kills from FaZe's Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken.
The second map, Vitality's Dust2 pick, was a back-and-forth affair until Vitality won seven rounds in a row to take an 8-3 lead. Twistzz handed FaZe a lifeline to end the first half, winning a 1v2 clutch to give his side a fourth round. FaZe secured their third pistol out of four opportunities, but were immediately stunted by Vitality's force buy in the second round. That force proved to be the pivotal round, as Vitality were flawless from that point on to win the map 13-5.
Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut and ropz led the way for the world's best team with 44 and 40 frags, respectively.
Vitality will now face B8 for a spot in the playoffs later today at 04:30PM.
