Missing the Major is something nicx won't let happen again

nicx: "It shouldn't even be a question whether we make the Major or not"

Before Senzu's departure, nicx gave some more context to the team.

At FRAG 20, Dust2.us Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore interviewed Nicholas "nicx" Lee of Passion UA.

nicx spoke about the team's 3rd-place finish, his teammates, and the Singapore Major.

Find the video interview below, with a full transcription underneath. All questions and answers have been slightly edited for length and clarity.

How are you feeling about that win over the new Marsborne?

It feels good. I got my friends on that team, so some nice banter during the game, but I had a good time.

What do you attribute to your slow start at this event?

I really don't know versus fatguy and Austin's team. We were trolling a little bit; it shouldn't have been that close. But against Fisher, they're a good team. They played really well. Not a lot more to say about that.

Unfortunately, we heard from JT that T.c wasn't able to coach you guys during this event because he's sick. Do you think that would have made a difference, to have your coach behind you to call timeouts and give you some more insight?

I don't think it was the leading factor, but it could be a factor for sure. We're the kind of team where we don't call many attacks on our own. Most of the time, when we call an attack, it is from T.c. So it's not by default in our mind to do something like that. So we did miss that a little bit, but I don't think it was the main reason we lost.

This marks one of the first events where you finally got to play with your whole five. Are you guys comfortable playing with each other yet?

Our level of comfort has definitely gotten better over time, but we spend so much time switching between rosters, practicing with new rosters, and traveling to events that even in general, we haven't had much scrim time. We've had almost three weeks of practice, some of it with Senzu playing from Mongolia. And that's over a three-month period. So we've really not had much practice relatively.

How are you feeling about IEM Atlanta?

I hope we play good. We showed we played good. We can play good versus NRG. I still think that wasn't even close to our A game. Even today versus Wildcard, we had some good moments, but it still wasn't close to our A game. We'll have a little bit of time to actually practice before Atlanta. So hopefully we can.

What's your relationship with your international teammates, Senzu and Try?

It's very easy. All of them are super cool, super chill. We spend a lot of time with each other outside of practice. So, it's great, love the guys.

How confident are you feeling about making it to Singapore?

Singapore is still a little bit away. We have plenty of events between now and then. I feel good about our chances, at the end of the day. If you look at the roster we have, we should be making it 10 out of 10 times based on being an NA team. It shouldn't even be a question whether we make the Major or not.
