Wildcard sign up for Urban Riga Open #4 despite scheduling conflict with PGL Bucharest

Last night the Urban Riga Open X account announced the team list for their latest upcoming LAN event, Urban Riga Open #4. Among the eight teams set to attend the Latvian LAN is Wildcard, a quite surprising addition as the event's schedule directly conflicts with PGL Bucharest, a $625,000 LAN event Wildcard qualified for in early March.

Urban Riga Open #4 is set to run from April 3rd to April 5th while PGL Bucharest will be played out from the 3rd to the 11th, making it quite impossible for Wildcard to attend both events. This presents something for a dilemma for the team as they will have to weight the pros and cons of attending one event over the other after double booking themselves for some reason.

While PGL Bucharest by is far the more prestigious event, Wildcard may feel that they have a better chance of gaining VRS points from Urban Riga Open #4 due to the lower level of competition. On the other hand, a last-place finish in Bucharest is worth more money than winning Riga outright.

Complicating things is the fact that withdrawing from either event at such a late juncture could see Wildcard have to forfeit multiple matches, a far from ideal outcome as the team chase VRS points while sitting at 96th in the Valve Regional Standings.

If they choose to skip Bucharest, it may also create an awkward situation for fellow NA team LAG, as they would be next in line to replace Wildcard in Bucharest. However, with the event starting in five days, PGL may not be able to get LAG to Romania in time for the event, leading to a vacancy or replacement by a European team.
