Liquid place fourth at Roman Imperium Cup VI despite comeback attempt
In the third-place decider match of Roman Imperium Cup VI, Liquid and recent stand-in Justinas "jL" Lekavičius took on Alliance, who dealt the soon-to-be NA team a 2-1 defeat and 4th place finish at the event.
Alliance would take the opening pistol on Inferno, but once the full buys came out from Liquid, they stayed out. The half ended with Liquid leading 7-5, and their T side would have little trouble securing 13 rounds to steal their opponent's map pick. jL led the lobby with 21 frags and a 1.73 rating.
It was the opposite story on Ancient, but the same beginning: an Alliance pistol round win. Their CT side was able to keep Liquid to a mere two rounds in the first half, thanks in part to Sean "eraa" Knutsson's 15 defensive frags. On the attack, it was Arvid "avid" Åberg to close the map out.
Alliance took the opening pistol yet again on Nuke. Up 2-1, they would go flawless in the fourth round, and at 5-1, Markus "upE" Johansson would secure a 3K to broaden the lead. Only the duo of Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek could stop the bleeding to secure a second Liquid round. The relief was short-lived, however, as Alliance finished the half with another flawless round and a 9-3 scoreline.
The second half's pistol went to none other than Alliance, who finished the match having won five out of six pistol rounds total. Liquid were able to string together a flawless force buy, followed by a Siuhy defuse and a jL 3K to stay alive as Alliance waited on matchpoint. Despite a nerve-wracking 1v4 attempt from avid, Liquid somehow managed to survive long enough to secure six straight rounds. It all came down to a 1v1 between Keith "NAF" Markovic and Simon "twist" Eliasson, with the Swede prevailing over the Canadian.
With jL's job done, Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa is set to make his Liquid debut.
