NRG eliminated from EPL S23 0-3 after heartbreaking decider against Ninjas in Pyjamas
After falling 1-2 to Ninjas in Pyjamas, NRG were eliminated from ESL Pro League Season 23 with a winless 0-3 record. The NA squad's first event with Michael "Grim" Wince has not gone as planned, as they only won one map throughout their tournament run, despite several close chances.
The series began on NRG's pick of Mirage, but you would be forgiven if you thought it was NIP's. They put up a wall on the CT-side, starting up 6-0. NRG got two, but lost four more to give NIP a dominant 10-2 half. Though NRG won the second pistol and conversion, NIP quickly closed out the first map with a dominant 13-4 score.
NIP picked Ancient and started with the pistol and conversion. However, NRG had a great remainder of the half, taking a strong 8-4 lead. They started their T-side hot with four rounds to take map point 12-4. NIP won three rounds back, but NRG eventually got it over the line 13-7. Grim had a stellar 27-11 performance with a 2.15 rating.
Anubis was the decider, and it was a nail-biter. NRG started with the pistol and conversions before NIP got six of the next seven rounds to take a 6-4 lead. NRG got two at the end of the half and had a great four-round start to their CT-side to take the lead back. After that, an eco loss and several man-advantage blunders cost them their lead, sending the map to overtime. All hope looked lost as NIP went flawless on their T-side, but NRG did the same to force another overtime. However, NIP were eventually able to pull out the win 19-16, ending the series 2-1.
Ever-dependable Kacper "xKacpersky" Gabara was the clear difference maker for NIP. He ended the series with 70 kills and over 100 ADR, plus a particularly devastating 1v2 toward the end of Anubis.
