Leetify releases data showing a big boost in MP7 usage since January buffs

MP7 kills are through the roof in Premier Season 4 so far.

On January 21st, Valve released the first significant Counter-Strike 2 update of the year. While the highlight was the start of Premier Season 4 and Anubis replacing Train, three SMGs got changes as well. The PP-Bizon, MP5-SD, and MP7 all got their prices reduced by $100, but the Bizon was left out of the bigger change. The MP5-SD and MP7 also had their base damage increased and their damage fall-off at range decreased.

These damage changes, coupled with the price drop, were predicted to increase their use in competitive play. Now that the update has been out for over a month, we have some data to see how they’ve fared.

Leetify released data on the usage of the three changed SMGs during the weeks leading up to the update and the weeks after. They tracked how many kills each SMG got before and after to gauge the change. Though the pre-update sample had roughly 3.51 million maps compared to the post-update sample of about 7.92 million, the upcoming stats are per map.

The PP-Bizon didn't get any damage buffs, but its price did go down. Despite that, the kills per map with the weapon actually decreased after the update from 0.59 to 0.34.

The MP5-SD, which actually got damage buffs, fared better than the Bizon. However, its kills per map still stayed the same, 0.62 before and 0.62 after the update.

The real boost came from the MP7. It was the most used of the three before the update, and was the only SMG to see an increase after. The MP7 rose from an average of 1.59 kills per map to 2.95, a huge jump.

It seems the MP7 is an early favorite, but time will tell if it maintains the increased usage throughout the rest of Premier Season 4.
