Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series 6 Day #4 recap: Wildcard grind out close win v. LAG

Outfit 49 defeated F5 in the other match.

The fourth day of Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series 6 has come to an end, with the second round of the Swiss stage getting underway.

Wildcard beat LAG in a tight 2-1 win, and Outfit 49 dealt with F5 2-0.

Wildcard and LAG battled in a heavyweight 1-0 match to try to put themselves one match away from the playoffs. The series started on Wildcard's pick of Dust2, where LAG held a 7-5 advantage after a back-and-forth first half. They would build on that lead on their T side, taking a 10-5 lead early in the second half. LAG kept Wildcard at an arm's length, winning the first map 13-9.

LAG's choice was Inferno, with Wildcard starting on the CT side. Neither team strung together more than three rounds in a row, with Wildcard holding onto a 7-5 lead going into the second period. LAG battled back to take a 10-9 lead, and eventually had a chance to win match point at 12-11. Wildcard won the final round of regulation to force overtime, taking that momentum into the extra period to steal the map away, 16-13.

The decider was Anubis, with LAG getting off to a 2-0 start after winning their CT pistol and converting, but Wildcard answered back with five in a row. LAG battled back to even the score at the half at 6-6. Wildcard began the second half with an 11-6 lead, but LAG cut the deficit to just one at 11-10 to bring themselves back into the game. Wildcard were able to edge out LAG at the wire, winning 13-11 to advance to 2-0 in the Swiss stage.

Jaxon "Peeping" Cornwell was Wildcard's leading man, dropping a match-high 60 frags in the victory.

Outfit 49 chose to start this 0-1 match on Dust2. They began the T side with a 6-1 lead, but F5 battled back to reduce the lead to 7-5 at halftime. F5 kept it going in the second half, taking a 10-7 lead early on in their attacking half. Outfit 49 stabilized, winning six of the final seven rounds to win the first map 13-11.

F5 needed to bounce back on their pick of Ancient, with the sides deadlocked at 3-3 halfway through the first period. Outfit 49 took control from there, taking an 8-4 advantage at the end of the half. F5 were only able to win three second-half rounds, falling on their own pick 13-7 to move to 0-2 and on the brink of elimination in Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series.

Nazar "H0NeST" Stefinko was outstanding in the series, boasting a 52-25 K/D ratio and a 1.75 rating in the match.
