Chr1zN: "Everyone is out of energy after giving 100% every time we've played"
Dust2us' Jefrey "Mnmzzz" Moore caught up with Christoffer "Chr1zN" Storgaard ahead of OG's 3rd-place match at Fragadelphia Blocktober.
Chr1zN commented on his team's performance at Frag, their hectic schedule of late, and introducing Rafael "arrozdoce" Wing into the OG lineup.
The interview can be found on YouTube below, with a complete transcription just underneath. All questions and answers have been edited slightly for length and clarity.
Tough loss against Fnatic last night to end your run to the Major. What do you think went wrong against them?
Still hard for me to digest as it's very recent. There are a lot of emotions, so it's tough, but it's on ourselves. On Ancient we had it in the bag and we threw it away. Some nerves probably came into the picture.
On Mirage, they were better, but I still feel we had our chances, but we didn't grasp them. Overall it's mostly on us even though they played well. We had a lot more to get done in that game.
With this event now deciding which of the four remaining teams is heading to the Major, was that something that was in the back of your mind against Fnatic? Did the match being at Fragadelphia help ease the stress that comes with those stakes?
I felt the nerves before the game, but as soon as you get into it, the match isn't that different from another LAN game. It's something we haven't done too much of as a team yet, so in that sense it's a bit new.
Still, we did pretty ok and my teammates were present and they were aware of what we were doing. They stayed focused, but you could probably pinpoint some of our decision-making to the pressure of the Major.
OG recently won their first LAN with the new lineup at DraculaN #2. What do you think was the X-factor that allowed you to take that LAN, and was it missing here?
To be honest, I think we're a bit exhausted after being on the road for a month. Everyone is out of energy after giving 100% every time we've played. It's natural that at some point we're going to hit a wall a little, and I think that happened yesterday against Fnatic.
Most of the things that went wrong are very basic things that we would do better on. It's definitely an energy issue.
Of course, you're not gonna make the Major. You still have a chance to gain a ton of VRS points in the third-place match. As a young captain of this team, do you think it's going to be a challenge to get your guys motivated for the third-place match? What's your plan to make sure they understand it's an important match?
I think everyone is aware of that. It is something that we have talked about because the Major is out of the picture for us. I think everyone is very clear about that. There are more tournament invites to be given out for next year. VRS points are so very important to all of these teams here. We're gonna give it 100%.
You recently added arrozdoce as your new 5th at the end of August. Do you feel like he's been able to work his way into the team considering you probably haven't had a lot of time to do a bootcamp or extended practice? Do you think he'll have more room for potential once he's found a spot in the team?
I think we have integrated him pretty well. There are still places where we would like to improve with him. As a team, we are trying to make sure he feels more comfortable on some maps.
I think with more practice, we will get better. Especially the last month, that's something we've lacked. I still think we've gone a long way with him in a short time. With more time, we will get to a place where we potentially will be at a tier-one level.
You're going to be taking on Ecstatic or 9INE in short order. Who are you looking to face off against?
It's a weird question. I would like to see Ecstatic win because I would like to see the Danes make it to the Major, but I would also like to play the Danes. I would say Ecstatic, but I'm also cheering for them.
Do you think you have the tools to win the Danskerbrag (Danish term for a rivalry match between Danes)?
I would say so, yes!
