Gabe Newell purchases superyacht company that counts Jerry Jones, Jeff Bezos as clients

This wasn't on our 2025 bingo card...

Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve, has purchased Dutch superyacht company Oceano, acquiring the luxury company that custom builds ships for royalty and the ultra-wealthy. Newell has purchased the company as Oceano are in the process of building his own $400 million superyacht and has clients including Jeff Bezos and Jerry Jones.

Newell's purchase of the company comes as the billionaire game developer already has an impressive fleet of yachts including the $150m Draak Yacht and the $100m Rocinante and reportedly spends most of his time at sea mixing work with scuba diving.

In their announcement, Oceanco stated that Newell was attracted to the company by his interest in the sea. With Newell's support, the company states that it will have the autonomy to push boundaries in its industry while also building Newell's newest $400m addition to his fleet.

Fact box

Gabe is not here for gadgets. He is here for growth, the human kind. He wants Oceanco to push harder on what it already does best: putting people first.

According to Oceanco, Newell will give their craftsmen access to tools that are usually "reserved for game devs and mad scientists."
