IESF WEC 2025 canceled, according to report
WEC 2025 has been canceled, according to an article from players.com.ua. The article cites the ongoing war in Ukraine, government bans, and shady behavior from IESF.
The tournament, originally scheduled to take place in Lviv, Ukraine, was set to proceed in the fall. This was made during the period of encouraging peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in May and early June. However, missile strikes in late June have brought the safety of the event into question. The Ukrainian military has also imposed a ban on large public events.
HOST ESUL, the Ukrainian organization set to help IESF organize the event, noted odd behavior from IESF. IESF then, allegedly, requested a $1 million payment that was owed to them by HOST ESUL to be sent to a private cryptocurrency account owned by an IESF official who would then forward it to the official IESF account.
On July 4th, Denys Davydov, a representative of HOST ESUL, contacted IESF to request the cancellation of the event due to the aforementioned reasons. IESF responded by saying the event had been canceled since June 23rd, although that hadn't been communicated to the Ukrainian org at that point.
It is unknown whether IESF will attempt to relocate its WEC event to a different host city.
