Dust2.us Eagle Masters Series 2 Day 9 Recap: Party Astronauts, others advance to playoffs

Party Astronauts avoided the Swiss Stage reverse sweep.

The final day of regular season play in the second Eagle Masters series saw three matches go down, with the winner qualifying for the playoffs and the loser eliminated in each match.

Party Astronauts started the season hot with a 2-0 record and just one win away from the playoffs. However, they would lose their next two matches to put themselves in this do-or-die best-of-three v. Wanted Goons.

United States Party Astronauts 2-1 United States Wanted Goons

Wanted Goons couldn't have asked for a better start to the series, stealing PA's map pick of Mirage by a resounding 13-3 score. Party Astronauts bounced right back, though, taking Wanted Goons' Dust2 selection 13-6.

Anubis was the deciding map in the series and went the way of Party Astronauts relatively comfortably. PA kept Wanted Goons at arm's length the whole match, taking an 8-4 advantage in the first half and converting it into a 13-7 win. Bogdan "ogwizard" Savula posted a series-high 48 frags in the best-of-three.

Party Astronauts survived and will advance to the playoffs, where they will face Getting Info.

United States LAG 2-1 United States MIGHT

A back-and-forth affair between LAG and MIGHT saw the former secure their spot in the playoffs at the final time of asking. LAG began the series by holding serve on their pick of Ancient 13-3, while MIGHT did the same on Dust2 despite a shaky second half to win 13-9.

Anubis went entirely the way of LAG to decide the series. LAG started off with an 11-1 T side to put the game all but past their opponents. MIGHT did fight back, but fell well short at 13-5. Kyle "Wolffe" Greenfield led all players with 52 frags in the series.

LAG will play BLUEJAYS in the first round of the playoffs.

United States Aether 1-2 United States Tsunami

Yet another three-map affair made up the third and final match of the day. Aether picked Mirage to begin the series, but disappointingly lost 13-5. However, they would come right back with a 16-13 overtime win on Tsunami's Dust2 pick to force a third and final map.

On Inferno, as was the theme in the series, it was the Connor "CoolComs" Barnes show. The British rifler put up 24 frags to just 12 deaths in the deciding map to power his team to the 13-10 victory. CoolComs registered at least 23 frags in every map of the series, getting 71 in total.

Tsunami will play v. BOSS in their first match of the playoffs.
