Valve refutes claims of recent Steam data breach
A few days ago, according to a post on LinkedIn, a user of a common dark web forum claimed to have breached Steam.
On the LinkedIn post, the user claimed to have access to the database of more than 89 million users. The post linked to a Telegram account to contact, and the information was being offered for $5,000.
However, Valve spoke up yesterday, saying that the leak was not a breach of Steam data. Valve stated that the leak consisted of older text messages that were only usable for 15 minutes, and the phone numbers could not be associated with users' accounts.
Valve said that account security information does not need to be changed due to this leak. They also suggested downloading the Steam Mobile Authenticator as it is the most secure way to send messages about your account and its security.
Valve's full statement can be found here.
