Train is CS2’s least played map in 2025 by a large margin
We're five months into the season, and Train is yet to see a spark in popularity. The map joined the official rotation in January in place of Vertigo, however, it's safe to say pros didn't fall in love with it.
At this point in the year, Train has been played only 486 times and is far ahead of the rest of the map pool. Inferno, for example, is the second least played map, and it has been played 832 times so far in 2025.
Complexity are one of the few teams in the world that has prioritized Train since its addition. However, a lot of teams had Vertigo as their permaban and simply started banning Train in every series meaning the decision hasn't exactly paid dividends for Complexity.
The response has definitely been underwhelming, especially if we consider that Train was out of the map pool since May 2021 and is a staple in Counter-Strike esports. The map was introduced to CS for the first time in 1999 during Beta 5.0.
So far, Valve has made only a few tweaks to the new Train. But if the map remains unpopular, the developer will most likely make more changes after the BLAST.tv Austin Major in June, or remove other maps to force casuals and pros to learn Train as it is.
Here's how many times each of the seven maps has been played so far in 2025, according to HLTV:
