Third Impact and Mythic round out DreamHack Open September Closed Qualifier field

Brazen and ONET4P fell on the final hurdle.

With the weekend's results in the book, the Closed Qualifier lineup for DreamHack Open September 2021 is set in stone, with Third Impact and Mythic joining ATK and Eros to fill the four play-in slots. Of the eight Closed Qualifier teams, just two will advance to the main event.

In the opening rounds a number of noteworthy sides found their open qualifier campaigns ended shy of qualification.  After a good showing in the first qualifier, Northern Forces forfeited their initial match, Levitate fell in the penultimate round against ONET4P after multiple overtimes, and even a 34-kill performance from Cameron "cam" Kern couldn't prevent the University of New Haven from losing their first-round matchup with High-af.

The first qualification series went the distance, with ESEA Advanced side Brazen pushing their ESEA Premier counterparts on Third Impact to a decider map on Nuke. Throughout the whole series the victors of each map were utterly dominant in the second half and pulled away from their opposition — just two rounds were tallied by the eventual losing side on each map in the series.

Noah "insane" Eheart led all players with 58 kills in the series for Third Impact, while Austin "Sway" Pollock topped the scoreboard for Brazen with 48 frags in the loss.

In the second rubber match ONET4P snagged a quick series lead off of a dominant 12-3 offensive effort on Nuke, but Mythic came roaring back to reverse sweep the recently promoted ESEA Premier side. Subsequent victories on Ancient and Mirage, including a 13-2 defensive half of their own on the latter proved enough to see the stream team through to the Closed Qualifier.

Johnny "JDubs" Wu had himself a series and finished with 89 kills last night to put Mythic through. Tianyi "Fr3nk1e" He was the next closest player in the frag department, finishing with 68 in the series loss for ONET4P.
