Veloz and Party Astronauts advance to day two of ESEA Spring Cash Cup 5
The first day of ESEA Spring Cash Cup 5 has concluded with Veloz defeating Big Chillin and Party Astronauts defeating poggers to advance to the second day of play against the invited teams, Third Impact and Secret Club.
The aforementioned poggers lineup was the story of day one, as the ChocoCheck core of Christopher "cJ" Jones, Dominic "JazzPimp" Dimpfel, and Bobby "stamina" Eitrem were joined by Michael "Turismo" Haas and Rodrigo "RCF" Figueiredo to make a deep run through a field that was missing many of the usual Cash Cup subjects as a result of the ongoing cs_summit 8 Closed Qualifier. They defeated Gold Nova For Life, East Coast, Recon 5, and X13 before falling to Party Astronauts in their day-two qualifier.
Other ESEA Premier teams that saw action in this Cash Cup included GGPR who were ousted 16-12 by Pryde, Big Chillin, who made it to the final round of day one before losing to Veloz, and of course Recon 5, who fell victim to the ChocoCheck mix 16-5 with Marshall "minus" Sedowicz playing in place of Tyler "tweiss" Weiss. Dust2.us confirmed with Dylan "SATURN" Finch that tweiss had a work conflict that precluded him from participating in this weekend's event.
poggers gave Party Astronauts a run for their money in their quarterfinal matchup, but eventually fell 16-12. Ben "ben1337" Smith led all players with 25 kills to send his side through to the second day of play, while RCF led the mix team with 21 frags in the loss.
Conversely, Veloz did not allow Big Chillin to keep their match close and won convincingly 16-6. Veloz held their quarterfinal opponent to just three rounds per half as Aidan "Aidan" Higgason doubled the kill total of nearly everyone on Big Chillin, finishing with 26 frags. Brendan "Melloh" Mello led Big Chillin with 14 kills in the loss.
Day two of ESEA Spring Cash Cup 5 will begin with:
|Party Astronauts||vs.||Secret Club|
Today's matches will feature two best-of-three semifinals starting at 4PM EDT, followed by the grand final and the third-place decider.
