Premier S36 playoffs round 2: Bad News Bears and Triumph set to clash in UB final
The second day of ESEA Premier Season 36 playoffs wrapped up last night, seeing Triumph and Bad News Bears advanced to the upper bracket final while Mythic and ChocoCheck were eliminated in the first round of the lower bracket.
The first series to conclude was a fairly clear-cut affair as Recon 5 made quick work of Mythic in the lower bracket, besting them 16-8 on both Mirage and Vertigo. On Recon 5's map pick, Mirage, Tyler "tweiss" Weiss had a standout performance, going 24-15 and picking up a 1.68 rating as Recon 5 narrowly won their T-side 8-7 before winning the map with a near perfect 8-1 CT-side.
On Vertigo, Mythic narrowly won their opening T-side 8-7 before Koby "kobruh" Higgs led the way with fourteen kills as Recon 5 claimed a flawless T-side to win Vertigo 16-8.

The other lower bracket match
was ChocoCheck's second contentious performance of the bracket as they punched above their weight in a 2-1 loss to GGPR. After being blown out 16-3 by GGPR on Dust2 ChocoCheck managed to extend the series by winning their map pick, Overpass, 16-8 in part thanks to a strong performance from Zack "XotiC" Elshani.
With the series tied up, the opening half of Train went the way of GGPR as they won their CT-side 9-6. In the second half, GGPR won the first three rounds in a row on their T-side to extend their lead to 12-6. Despite ChocoCheck's best efforts to mount a comeback, GGPR held the lead for the remainder of the map, narrowly winning it 16-14 to avoid an overtime confrontation.

Both upper bracket series were hotly contested, with Triumph kicking off the action with a close 2-0 win over RBG. The first map of the series, Inferno, started with RBG in the lead 8-7 at the half before a combined effort from David "cynic" Polster and Wesley "viz" Harris allowed Triumph to claim a 9-3 T-side to take the map 16-11.
Moving onto Dust2, Triumph's map pick, cynic and viz continued to lead the way as Triumph narrowly won their T-side 8-7. In the second half, the two sides continued to trade rounds before Triumph broke away on round 25, winning the next four rounds in a row to win Dust2 16-12 and make their way into the upper bracket finals.

On the other side of the upper bracket, Bad News claimed an even closer 2-0 win over High Coast. The action began with Bad News Bears closely taking High Coast's map pick of Overpass in the thirtieth round as Gabe "Spongey" Greiner led the server with a 27-16 K-D and a 1.41 rating.
Continuing the series on Train, High Coast claimed a surprisingly narrow 9-6 lead at the half considering they started their CT-side off with an 8-1 lead. High Coast likely regretted letting so many T-side rounds go to Bad News Bears after they pulled off a strong CT-side that allowed them to pull away and take Train 16-13 to set up an upper bracket final confrontation with Triumph.
