Vamos Brazil?

90% of Brazilian teams qualify after starting 2-1

Brazilian teams have a habit of making it to the next stage.

Nobody expected this. Brazil, on day three of the PGL Copenhagen Major, still has four teams in contention to qualify for the Elimination Stage. It's a run that has left commentators, personalities, and fans flummoxed as the Americas region is punching above their weight for what feels like the first time in a very long time.

Imperial and paiN are now 2-1 in the competition, while Legacy are staying alive at 1-2, and FURIA are bouncing back after a poor first day. With all four teams still in the competition, Dust2 Brasil looked at the history of Brazilian squads and how they fared at Majors when starting 2-1.

The result? Well, before 2022, every Brazilian team that started 2-1 qualified. During the BLAST.tv Paris Major paiN had also started 2-1, but they ultimately failed to qualify for the Legends Stage and were eliminated from the Major following losses to Apeks and Monte.

Brazil's record in Majors when up 2-1:

  • 2017 ELEAGUE Major Atlanta - SK Gaming: Offline Qualifier, Advanced 3-1

  • 2017 PGL Major Kraków - Immortals Offline Qualifier, Advanced 3-2

  • 2017 PGL Major Kraków - SK Gaming: Offline Qualifier, Advanced 3-1

  • 2018 ELEAGUE Major Boston - SK Gaming: Legends Stage, Advanced 3-1

  • 2018 FACEIT Major London - MIBR: Legends Stage, Advanced 3-2

  • 2019 IEM Katowice Major - MIBR: Legends Stage, Advanced 3-1

  • 2021 PGL Major Stockholm - FURIA: Legends Stage: Advanced 3-1

  • 2022 PGL Major Antwerp - FURIA: Legends Stage: Advanced 3-2

  • 2022 IEM Rio Major - FURIA: Challengers Stage: Advanced 3-1

  • 2023 BLAST.tv Paris Major- paiN: Challengers Stage, Eliminated 2-3

Imperial and paiN are going up later today as they hope to continue the historically positive trend, with paiN looking to get some revenge after last year's disappointment.
