Twistzz and FaZe stay alive
It hasn't been easy for FaZe in this stage, which is surprising considering their dominance in the Challengers Stage just a few days prior. The squad, headlined by Canadian Russell "Twistzz" Van Dulken, has been searching for answers after an understandable loss to Heroic in Day 1 and a concerning one to Into the Breach.
However, this evening the European squad were able to find their grove in an all-important bounce-back game against 9INE. The Poles have surprisingly struggled in this stage, coming in as favorites in their initial match against Liquid and never seeming to find their footing against the Americans and then slipping away throughout the event.
For FaZe, they got the game off to a flyer on their pick of Inferno, executing an 11-4 first-half T-side that put the game to bed before 9INE knew how to react. While FaZe then seemed to let the game slip ever so slightly in their defense, it didn't matter thanks to their ginormous lead, giving them a 16-10 map win to get back on the right track.
9INE looked broken, unable to figure out how to get back into the match. Their pick of Anubis would turn out to be devastating for them as FaZe's CT-side was impenetrable. Twistzz would do all he could to contribute to the team and despite having an impressive game in his own right, would find himself towards the bottom of the scoreboard as he simply could not be involved enough. A 13-2 half would turn into a 16-8 match, and suddenly FaZe were on their way to playing for a Major once again.
