Can FURIA rally with their backs against the wall?

What to expect from FURIA v. G2

It is do or die for these two top teams.

With both teams starting off the BLAST.tv Paris Major Legends stage in worst-possible fashion, two fellow playoff contenders are now staring down the barrel with elimination right at the precipice. With both clamoring to find themselves, they'll only have one more opportunity to get it right otherwise it is time to go home. Before the two teams ready up, let's take a look at how each team can get it done.

Practice what you preach

Pre-Legends media week for FURIA was chock-full of praises about the new system that was worked over and fully implemented. Accompanying the praise was high expectation to show a new-look FURIA, one that would of course carry newfound success. This has not come to fruition, to say the least, as the team failed to mount ten rounds in either of their losses and even failing to secure a sole T-side round in the affairs.

For FURIA, this calls for a fundamental reset and a call to go back to the basics in this match. Plainly spoken, they need to keep it simple in this matchup against G2 and trust their overwhelming tempo and firepower to get it done against a struggling G2 lineup that could be vulnerable in a big way.

No denying the star power

Every team has their de facto star or stars to lean on every game they can. These stars carry the workload in a big way and are the key catalyst for team success. When looking at G2, they have a plethora of stars, with the duo of Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov leading the pack as two of the best players in the world.

Coming off the two losses, it was easy to tell that the two stars were not fully synched this time around compared to their lights-out performances in the previous stages. When the two talents are both firing on all cylinders, G2 is insanely tough to beat. Without greater detail, if these two are turned up in this match, FURIA will have a run for their money.

What to expect from the match

This series is going to be a call to form for both teams. With neither close to where they should be in performance, expect both of them to go back to the well and hammer out the basics against one another. The stars will be in full force as neither team wants to go home this early in the 0-3 stage. With this being potentially both of their last matches at the final Major, expect them to put it all out on the line.

With that said, expect these two teams to lean into their comfort picks during this elimination series. It will be interesting with both teams looking to Overpass as their permanent ban, but recent data points to a surety that we will see both Mirage and Inferno, with the likelihood of either Nuke or Vertigo ending it.

  • G2 ban Overpass (Permaban)

  • FURIA ban Ancient

  • G2 pick Inferno

  • FURIA pick Mirage

  • Decider of Nuke or Vertigo

The elimination match between FURIA and G2 is set to begin tomorrow at 12:30PM.
