ESEA Main playoffs down to final eight teams
The second round of the ESEA Main Season 26 playoffs are over, and the final eight teams have been decided. With those winning teams now in the quarterfinals here's a brief recap of the Round of 16 games.
Etherian vs Glockoma (0-2)
Etherian narrowly escaped defeat in the previous round, despite entering the playoffs with the top seed. They finally met their makers in Glockoma, as Cache saw Glockoma narrowly get the better of both halves as they took it 16-14, and they repeated their feat on Inferno in a 16-13 game.
eRa vs Team Sol (2-0)
eRa were part of two outliers in this round, as they failed to be upset. First up was a quick and easy Cobblestone game won 16-9, before a much closer affair on Nuke. Being down at a 9-6 deficit on the half, they came back and secured a 16-13 win at the end to slot themselves into the quarterfinals.
Blackwoodproductions vs Enter (0-2)
Blackwood more or less had a repeated performance on both maps of this defeat. The first half of both maps, Train and Cobble, saw them take it extremely close in a 8-7 half, but then see it fall apart in the second half to end up losing at 16-11 on both maps.
h00liGaNz vs SetToDestroyX (2-0)
After a mixed first round game, h00liGaNz brought themselves back up for the tie against SetToDestroyX. Train saw a game they had the better of in the first half, but with a closer second half to take the game 16-13. Cobblestone was a slightly more straightforward affair, with h00liGaNz being in charge throughout the match securing the tie with a 16-10 win.
Guerilla Tactics vs Third Times a Charm (1-2)
Guerilla looked like they were set to not to join the list of teams who had their seeding overturned. Albeit close, they were in control in the Overpass game, taking it 16-13. Cobblestone followed and it was looking as if such a result was going to continue, taking a strong 10-5 halftime lead. But TTaC came up trumps throughout the second half to overturn the scoreline and claim the second map with their own 16-13 win. The third map was more or less a repeat of the second, with GT starting off strong before dropping off in the second half. TTaC sent themselves through to the next roiund on the third map with a 16-11 score.
Team Hyper vs Team RivaL (0-2)
There wasn't much hype for Team Hyper in the game, as they were defeated by their second round rivals. A dominant performance started the set for Team RivaL on Mirage, securing a solid 16-9 win, before repeating the feat on Train with a 16-7 win.
VAULT vs HentaiWeeabooMasterLords (0-2)
The Colombians were coming into this match as strong favorites, but that status didn't last long. They were close on Mirage towards the end, but HWML were the stronger team initially and kept it to the end, with a 16-14 win. Cobblestone was a much different story, as the MasterLords bolted out of the gates with a strong display to secure their spot in the quarterfinals with a 16-9 win.
The Savages vs VikingS (0-2)
A pillaging display from the VikingS saw them safely into the RO8. A straightforward 16-6 win on Mirage was swiftly followed up with a 16-3 win on Inferno, safely tucking that win into their pocket.
With that, all the winners from this round have secured themselves at least $450 from being the final eight teams in the tournament. Even more imporantly, each team is now one step closer to securing a spot in the next season of ESEA MDL.
