New Identity replace Jonji with dapr
Late last night, Jonathan "Jonji" Carey announced on Twitter that he had been cut from New Identity, ending his one-month tenure with the team.
Jonji originally joined the team when they underwent a massive overhaul in the middle of Season 31. The team performed fairly well during his tenure with the team, especially considering the short amount of time the roster was together. Their achievements include making playoffs in MDL, besting Cloud9 and nearly beating Envy during the StarLadder Major Berlin Americas Minor Closed Qualifier, and narrowly missing out on a spot at at Will "dazzLe" Loafman's hometown event IEM Chicago after falling to Envy.
Dust2.us has been informed that replacing the Canadian will be none other than Michael "dapr" Gulino. The player ostensibly joined Riot Squad a little over a week ago, but apparently never formally signed with the organization. Riot Squad recently parted ways with Josh "shinobi" Abastado in a bid to pick up dazzLe and Skyler "Relyks" Weaver, but the second half of that plan did not come to fruition. Just days later, however, dapr has now reunited with his former eUnited teammates.
On top of this, Dust2.us has been told that coach Michael "MAiNLiNE" Jaber has not been involved with the team since their run in MDL Season 31 playoffs concluded.
All these changes mean New Identity now have the following roster:
- Sebastian "seb" Bucki
- Collin "wrath" McSweegan
- Will "dazzLe" Loafman
- Skyler "Relyks" Weaver
- Michael "dapr" Gulino
What the loss of dapr means for Riot Squad is currently unknown, but it will certainly make life for the organization more difficult as shinobi still controls the team's ESEA roster. As of the publishing of this article, Dust2.us has not heard back on a request for comment from Riot Squad.
As for New Identity, the team await the winner of ATK and Lazarus in the grand final of WINNERS League Season 2.
