A good showing and some luck takes Complexity to playoffs

Complexity clinch EPL playoff berth

With a little help from Heroic Complexity is going to the playoffs.

After defeating ENCE 2-0 earlier today, Complexity’s playoff destiny was in the hands of fellow group opponent Heroic. Despite the 3-2 record, the competitive nature of the group left Complexity needing more to guarantee making top three. Luckily for the Americans, Heroic answered the call.

Complexity initially looked poised to clinch a playoff spot early after starting the group play-off 2-0 with BO3 wins over Astralis and HEET. Things became less than clear for the #29 ranked Complexity after losing back-to-back matches against Heroic and MOUZ. The weaving web of variables surrounding Astralis, Complexity, and Heroic opened the door for the group to end in multiple ways.

When Complexity sealed the series 2-0 against ENCE, things were not looking good for their playoff hopes, as Astralis had just closed out Heroic's map pick of Overpass in overtime. Heroic rallied back from the razor-thin loss on Astralis’ pick of Inferno with a strong 16-12 victory. Things were neck-and-neck through nearly the entirety of Nuke, leaving Complexity players and fans filled with anxiety as neither team budged in the third map.

Heroic answered the call in the final rounds, edging out Astralis on their T-side to take map three 16-13 to win a tight 2-1 series. The win takes Heroic to a 4-1 record where they comfortably take one of three playoff spots via group play. As for Complexity, their prayers were indeed answered and they will also enter the playoffs as the third team from their group.
