The hallzerk addition is proving to be a key factor on the team's mental game

Complexity falter in BLAST playoffs

The North Americans will have to go through the Fall Showdown.

OG and Complexity met in the first round of the knockout stage after the European mix finished last in Group A and the Americans finished third. The map veto saw OG pick Ancient and Complexity choose Overpass, with Inferno as the decider, if needed.

Ancient couldn't have started better for the North Americans. Michael "Grim" Wince managed to save his team by clutching a 1v2 situation in the CT-side pistol after having already killed two enemies, pulling the momentum to Complexity's side. However Things turned grim quickly, as OG got nine rounds in a row without any answer. The half would end 11-4 in favor of the Europeans, who were playing on the supposed more difficult side of the map. The second half started with OG winning the pistol, the force buy and the half buy. The Complexity squad was facing a 14-4 mountain to climb, and started to chip at it.

Round by round they fought and won four in a row before OG managed to put their 15th on the board. Despite the score, the North Americans didn't lose hope and continued to fight, stringing another five rounds together. With a 15-13 scoreline, things were looking better to Complexity, and an overtime scent was starting to appear, but in a 1v1 situation between Abdul "degster" Gasanov and Justin "FaNg" Coakley, the Russian defused the bomb right under the Canadian's nose to end the game and put OG 1-0 up. Despite the result, this map showed that this Complexity squad is capable of putting things together in difficult situations, seeming like the addition of Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli coupled with the player break played a huge part in the mental recovery of the team.

The second map, Overpass, picked by Complexity, was a totally different story. Whereas the Americans' mental game is getting stronger, their consistency still needs work. Starting on the T-side of Overpass, Complexity only managed to win four rounds in the half. According to degster, OG coaches prepared the players really well, and it showed. The constant flanks, the B-site almost unhittable, and the natural pockets full of money propelled the Europeans to an 11-4 CT half, with a very slim chance for Complexity to send things to Inferno. The second half started as fast as it ended, with OG not dropping any round, despite a very close opportunity for Johnny "JT" Theodosiou to clutch one against degster. The map ended 16-4 and OG granted a spot in round two of the Knockout stage, which will be played on Friday at 07:00AM against FaZe.
