The season is upon us

BLAST Pro Series announce Global Season format

The already innovative format innovates again.

The organizers of the BLAST Pro Series, RFRSH Entertainment, have announced the format for their new Global Season, which takes in to account all BLAST Pro Series tournaments played in 2019.

While the season has only been publicly announced now, it counts results from the Sao Paulo event in March, where Astralis won the title over Liquid. To be included in the season, a team must play at least five BLAST Pro Series events, and qualification to the Grand Finals in December will require the team to finish in the top four of the league table.

RFRSH however have announced the full slate of competitors for the season, as all six teams invited to BLAST Pro Series Miami and NiP. This means RFRSH are still able to invite wildcard teams, like ENCE in Sao Paulo or the Spanish qualifier for the Madrid event, while keeping the season restricted to the invited teams.

This means that if a wildcard team finishes in the points, the points that team won would be expunged from the record. The points structure for the Global Season is as follows:

  • 1st: 10 Points
  • 2nd: 8 Points
  • 3rd: 6 Points
  • 4th: 4 Points
  • 5th: 2 Points
  • 6th: 0 Points

Part of the BLAST Pro Series Global Season will see seven tournaments held all around the world, effectively once a month between March and November excluding June, with the Global Final held in December which will have it's own $500,000 prize pool. So far, only events up to Los Angeles have been announced, with the final four venues to be confirmed during the season.

The next BLAST Pro Series event will be this weekend in Miami, between May 10th-11th. Season leaders Astralis will be looking to defend their spot on top against a field that includes Liquid, Natus Vincere and Cloud9.
