stanislaws' compLexity overcame NRG to secure their spot at the next Major

Liquid secures Legends spot after defeating Na'Vi; NRG sent home following 0-2 loss to compLexity

After winning a close series versus NRG, compLexity continue their Major run.

Day three of the New Legends stage has concluded, with Liquid advancing to the Legends stage in confident fashion after picking up a 2-0 win against Natus Vincere. Additionally, MIBR picked up a win against G2 to rebound into the 2-1 pool. However, this day was not all good as NRG, one of the favored teams to advance, was knocked out of the Major after a startling 2-0 loss to NA rival compLexity.

The first match of the day saw MIBR face off against G2 on Inferno, where MIBR got off to a confident start by claiming the CT pistol and converting it to a four-round run. MIBR would continue their good form with G2 only winning a single until round ten when G2 finally answered back with five rounds of their own. However, MIBR were able to close out the half 9-6 as they switched to their CT side.

On their T side, MIBR started out strong winning the pistol round and again taking the following four more rounds, putting them three rounds away from taking the map. However, G2 were not ready to give up as Lucas "Lucky" Chastang was able to convert a 3k AWP defense on the B site into the French team's first T round. They would work off of this to claim five more rounds putting the match back into close contention. However, their luck ran out in round 27 when Marcelo "coldzera" David found a 3k of his own to claim match point. After this, MIBR swiftly ended the map with a 16-13 finish, elevating the team into the 2-1 pool for tomorrow.

In North America's second outing of the day, Cloud9 took on Vitality on Mirage. After a back and forth map, Vitality were able to clutch out the win on round 30, after winning a 5v4 bomb defense against a depleted Cloud9 economy.

During their hair-splitting loss against Vitality, Robin "flusha" Rönnquist put in a monumental performance that included a 1.32 rating and a round 27 1v4 that kept Cloud9 in the game. flusha's performance was all the more impressive as the Swedish star announced today the unfortunate passing of his mother. Dust2.us would like to offer our condolences to flusha, and to Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen whose father passed on Tuesday.

The third North American matchup of the day pitted the Australian Renegades versus the number one team in the world, Astralis. On Mirage, Renegades shocked Astralis by claiming the first map in a 19-17 overtime victory. Norwegian import Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad was instrumental in this this map one upset, dropping 28 frags and claiming a 1.15 rating.

Feeling confident after their first map, Renegades had a daunting task ahead of them for map 2, as they had to contend with the seemingly unstoppable force that is Astralis on Nuke. Although Renegades were able to win nine rounds on their CT side, Astralis completely blew out their opposition by claiming a perfect 10 rounds on their CT to close out map two.

Moving onto Inferno, Renegades seemed to have run out of steam, as Astralis mopped up the Australian opposition, only allowing the team two rounds on their T side. With this, Renegades have fallen to the 2-1 pool however they can take comfort in being the first team to take a map off the Danish juggernaut at IEM Katowice.

Next up in the day was an all-American showdown between NRG and compLexity. The North American battle started on Nuke, where the first half was indecisive as both teams traded rounds, with compLexity narrowly edging out an 8-7 lead. Moving onto their T side, compLexity seemed set to break the stalemate as they were able to convert a round 18 buy into a seven-round run to put compLexity at 14 rounds. Nuke would eventually go into double-overtime where compLexity was carried to a map one win due to a monster performance by Peter "stainslaw" Jarguz who managed 45 kills during the map's 41 rounds.

The overtime action continued on Cache, as the regulation rounds were again a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading blows. However, this time, compLexity was able to seal the deal in a quicker fashion ending the map, the series, and NRG's major run with a 19-16 finish. With this, compLexity have secured their appearance at the Berlin Major, and NRG have shockingly fallen out the Major by losing four maps after previously not dropping a single map until the New Legends stage.

The final best-of-three of the day kicked off on Natus Vincere's map pick of Mirage. The CIS side took the first four rounds, but Liquid got their CT play in order and took six in return. Only dropping two additional rounds in the half, the North American team took a 9-6 lead at the half switch. With the valiant efforts of Egor "flamie" Vasilyev, who put up 26 frags and nearly 98 ADR, Na`Vi brought it back on their Counter-Terrorist side to lead 14-12. However, they could not close it out in the end, dropping the first map 14-16.

Liquid got off to a stronger start on their pick Dust 2, going up 7-4 initially. The half was quite close in the end, slightly favoring Liquid 8-7. In-game leader Nick "nitr0" Cannella was the key player for the North American side on the second map, picking up an 88% KAST as well as a 1.57 rating. He helped to lead his team to a strong Terrorist half, eventually closing out the map 16-9 and the series 2-0.
