MDL Relegation sees Vikings Hysterical due to poor Fundamentals

We're hitting peak titles in August 2018.

The MDL Relegation tournament continued last night, and the likes of Hysteria, The Fundamentals and Vikings were eliminated from the competition.

Lower Bracket Round One

The first lower bracket game to conclude saw Geostorm take a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over Vikings to keep their tournament hopes alive. It took them a bit of time to get going on Mirage, having to overturn a four round deficit to get into the game, but a 10-5 lead at the half was what they needed. Daniel "picky" Milazzo picked up a 107.2 ADR as they pushed forward in the second half, finally claiming the six rounds they needed for a 16-8 win.

The good vibes were continued on to the second map, where Geostrom exploded into the first half with a five round lead, before ending the half 11-4 up. The second half was a slightly more difficult affair, where Cole "ColeUP" Werry and co. had to struggle through six rounds at match point before being able to claim the win.

The next match to finish in the lower bracket saw Vault continue for another day against Hysteria. The South American team were taken close on Overpass, where a strong 12-3 T-side half was the start they were looking for. However Hysteria bounced back immediately in the second half to eventually even the game up 14-14, before Juanes "sickLy" Valencia made his 30 kills count in the final two rounds of the game for a 16-14 win.

Mirage was a much more comfortable win for the Colombians. A five round streak at the start was moulded into a 10-5 lead at half time, with Jesus "sam_A" Taboada chalking up a 1.95 rating as he went. From there, Hysteria's pistol round was instantly overturned before Vault went on a six-round streak to the end of the game.

Due to ETHEREAL's bye in the lower bracket, which came due to MWNL's bye in the upper bracket, the final lower bracket game saw The Fundamentals face Glockoma. This was a battle which went all three maps. Mirage started off strong for Glockoma, where a 9-6 half was eventually merged into a 16-10 win.

The Fundamentals took Dust2 next, after a close 8-7 half narrowly went in Glockoma's favor, their opponents turned it around in the second half. With only four rounds won in total in the second half, it was a fundamentally strong game for Cameron "Skelly" Thomson and co. who lifted a 16-12 win.

Cache was next, and Joel "jcrueL" Cruel was set to repeat his strong performance from the previous map. Glockoma exploded out of the gates with a 11-4 lead on their CT-Side, with The Fundamentals not able to take more than one game at a time. The second half was a slightly different story, with a six round streak at the start of the half to kick some life back into The Fundamentals' game. But after that it was over, Glockoma claimed match point and eventually secured the win, pushed on by jcrueL's 1.51 rated performance.

Upper Bracket Round Two

MWNL's first round bye was unable to help them here, as Big Frames took a 2-0 victory against them. Cache was a close overtime victory, however, where Big Frames started strong before narrowly falling behind, 8-7, at the half. The second half was pretty much a reverse story, where MWNL were ahead for the majority, and even secured match point with four rounds remaining. However Yan "PRDTR" Davtian and co. dug in to push to overtime, and barely claimed victory after the full first set, 19-17.

Mirage was a different story, one where Big Frames were always in control. A first half 11-4 lead was more than enough for them, as MWNL were constantly pushed away from any hopes of grabbing a foothold, only managing to group rounds together at the end of the first half. The second half was a ping-pong mess of rounds, where both teams secured force buy wins before Big Frames eventually snagged the big picture, and took a 16-6 win.

The favorites of the event, oNe, continued their winning streak as they haven't lost a map since the regular season of Advanced. ex-Atmosphere, having been the most recent victim to oNe's dominance, experienced the pain first hand as they lost their series 2-0 to the Brazilians. oNe vied for Overpass first in which ex-Atmosphere were unable to keep up on their opponent's map pick. After a 10-5 deficit at the half, ex-Atmosphere couldn't get the ball rolling even once they had won pistol round on their T-side.

Mirage was when the series got more interesting with a 12-3 T-side from ex-Atmosphere. With Dion "Bl4ckiice" Mckenzie at the forefront, it seemed as if the win was assured, however once oNe switched sides, it was a different story. The map went into OT, and oNe simply walked away without losing a round. Alencar "trk" Rossato continued to shine bright as he finished the two map series with a 1.61 HLTV rating.

Josh "JoshRT" Lee and the Infamous company walked away from the second round against Whatever It Takes with a nail biter of a start to the series. The series began with a swift kick in the Infamous behind as Whatever It Takes were able to dominate Train 16-5.

Infamous managed to win the pistol round to start Cache off but found themselves eco'd the next round. They shrugged it off for a 9-6 half. Whatever It Takes then followed up with a pistol round of their own in the second half and even took the lead back 10-9. Once Infamous had corrected their economy it was a smooth six rounds straight. Whatever It Takes delayed the match with two rounds of their own and Infamous closed it out 16-12.

Infamous were able to get their revenge for the Train destruction with their own blowout on Inferno. Taking ten rounds on their T-side and stealing the pistol round on CT, it was all JoshRT and Mike "real_bM" Desanto to finish the series 2-1 with a 16-8 on map three.

The series between Forty Six & 2 and subtLe was nothing short of exciting as the Mexican-American team put together a 2-1 victory over Kyle "OCEAN" O'Brien's team. Inferno was the highest round total map of the day as the two teams battled it out into double OT.  An 11-4 half for subtLe, and a 15-7 lead almost had the map sewn up until Forty Six & 2 were able to mount the eight round comeback. subtLe was able to come out with the win 22-19 despite having to start the first OT and finish the second on the more difficult T-side.

The next map did not go according to subtLe's plan. During the veto process, subtLe was most likely feeling confident on their Train play, but weren't prepared for the level that Forty Six & 2 would play at. Forty Six & 2 featured a commanding CT-side that saw them take a 13-2 lead at half, and on the wave of a pistol round win, they cleaned up the rest of the rounds for a 16-2 triumph. Mexican player Adrian "Gonnak" Arguello was particularly great in the map, ending with a 2.02 HLTV rating.

Cache would start with more of the same from Forty Six & 2 as they continued their streaking power with a 13-2 half. After winning pistol for the 14-2 lead subtLe tried to start their comeback to save themselves from the lower bracket. Five rounds passed with the comeback still alive until the Mexicans were able to put the map on series point. subtLe made one final push for OT but were unsuccessful in their attempt. subtLe was put to the lower bracket, and Forty Six & 2 would be boosted into the upper bracket for a shot at making it into the MDL once again.
