OpTic parent company part ways with investor after aggravated assault arrest
Infinite Esports & Entertainment, the parent company of OpTic and the Houston Outlaws of the Overwatch League, have parted ways with Deep Space Ventures, according to a report from ESPN's Jacob Wolf.
The reason for the split is the arrest of Deep Space's managing partner, Stephen Hays, which occurred after an alleged domestic violence incident in which Hays attacked his wife with a hammer after attending a Panic! At the Disco concert in Dallas.
Hays was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and posted his $50,000 bail on Tuesday. This is not Hays' first run in with the law, as he plead guilty to attempted assault charges last November, the same month it was announced that the Texas Rangers had acquired OpTic.
The relationship between Infinite and Deep Space began shortly thereafter, in December of 2017. Deep Space also has investments in other esports-related properties, such as Battlefy.
