fnatic are not who they used to be

Media: fnatic reportedly engaged in talks to sell legendary org according to Spanish podcaster

Two football clubs are rumored to be interested.

According to Spanish League of Legends podcast Al Lío Podcast, fnatic are attempting to, according to a translation of the podcast, "either sell the entire club or sell a substantial stake in the shares," potentially to a European football club.

The podcast hosts allege the org has already "met with two football clubs," one of them rumored to be a German franchise, presumably a Bundesliga club. The potential sale has reportedly stalled any roster moves for their League of Legends team, though it's uncertain if this is also the case for the CS team, as their last acquisition was of Viktor "Br4tkO" Kondratets in March.

While currently ranked #80 in the global VRS, there was a time when fnatic were icons of the scene. The all-Swedish lineup that represented the organization in 2014 and 2015 is regarded as one of the best rosters of all time, with two Major wins to back up that claim.

These days, fnatic would be lucky to win a B-Tier event. As for some of their other teams, the League of Legends outfit appears not to have won an LEC event since 2019, although their VALORANT team won several EMEA events last year, when the org also hired an advisory company to explore reported $100 million sale offers.

One can only imagine the asking price has been lowered since then.
